Best tires for towing / light off-roading?
 

Hello! I need new tires for my 2006 Ranger FX4 Level II. I tow a 3000 lb holiday trailer and carry a 250 lb motorbike in the box. We travel long distances while towing so a good highway tire would be nice, but I still want some off-road capability as well as bad weather reliability...any suggestions? Nothing too high-end, though, I can't afford it!

I'll put my vote in for Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.

If you are towing/hauling/off-roading a lot get some LT rated tires, they will last much longer. They will ride rougher when empty though.

Shopping around for a good price on the Duratracs - I'm in Las Vegas for the next few days, then we're travelling thru Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, etc. on our way to Florida mid March. I think NM has the lowest taxes...
I looked at the Nitto Terra Grapplers, but they do not have 15" tires.

What do you think of the Michelin LTX A/T2? Found a good price at Discount Tire ($170 in rebates for 4 tire)

Had them on my 1/2 ton...not bad. I think the FS Destination A/T's are a better all around tire.

Destination AT for sure. for light off roading, good in sugar, good in snow, ride like a dream on high way, highest rated all terrain on tire rack . com and they throw water like a dream, no problem with traction in any situation. I love mine

Check out the Falken WildPeak or Rocky Mountain A/T. They're both the same tire, but have different names. I personally haven't towed anything with them, but they're great on the highway and for light off-roading. Awesome traction on dry, wet, and icy roads.

you want 6-8 ply. with max psi.

ok, i have spent hours searching for any thing closest to what i need to know, i have come up with nada

i have 2003 xlt supercab 3'0 v6 with TOW PACKAGE class II, auto matic
my manuel says i can tow 3940lbs reguarless of trans ratio, it says ALL
i have added air bags cuz azz end drags,
my manual says GCWR is 7500lbs
dont know truck weight right now, dont have paperwork


it also say to look on lable of door frame which is confueing cuz its different
it has
GVWR 4740 front GAWR 2500 rear 2600

i need to know WHAT KIND TIREs I NEED TO BUY, is it 6 or 8 ply??
is it LT or XT, is it load lbs over 2000 per tire??, or is it a P with Lt att he end of the size?

AND WHAT IS THE MOST WEIGHT RV

grab a C load rating tire in a LT form. Dont touch a P style tire.

something like a BFG AT with C rating in a 31x10.50R15 LT

i carry a 400lbs bike and can handle a 6000lbs trailer (if i had my hitch still) with C. remember its not trailer weight, its tongue

My Bridgestone Dueler A/T's have treated me great, and they were pretty affordable

There are tons of drilling rigs up here in PA and all their tires are Duratracs, Kelly Safari MT, or Fierce additudes (16"+)

All 3 are great for towing/offroading with

Cooper ATPs. Great off road and silent on the highway.
