How far can I air down...
... when I go wheelin with 285/75R16's on stock rims? I probably will encounter some large rocks next week and was just wondering.

10 to 15 psi you should be safe anything lower and you will chance losing a bead. I ran my 285's mounted on stock sport trac wheels down to 12psi with out any problems.

I would go about 15 psi, I would lower mine to 20 psi

^^^what all them said. Might invest in on-board air as well. When i wheel in the snow, i usually air down to 10-12.

ABSOLUTLY NO LESS then 15 psi. If you go any lower you risk damaging the tire.

jon, it might be kinda hard to air back up when ur up north though so you might not want to air down too much.

i've had mine down to 10-12, but my tires are quite a bit wider than the rim compared to what your running

well damn we've got Mr. Tire tech at costco on the line.. listen to him


it all depends on how you treat them too, but yes.. you 'risk' damaging them. thats what tire warrantys are for

Good luck getting a warentee claim on 4 tires with damaged sidewalls. Also have fun when that thing blows out on you at 70MPH.

the way manager said it is "all i know is you ran them too low for too long"

and my buddy pins his tires between rocks and slash's the sidewalls all the time and gets new tires.

That's what the "no questions asked" warrentee at America's is for!!

americas/discount

only problem is you can only do it once its down to 3/32.. aka the tread wear indicator and my fronts are really close :(
