heres my truck the tires are 265/75/16 (31's) what size wheel spacers would you guys suggest?

yes i am putting a 3" bl on in about 2 or 3 weeks

 

The ones you have on there right now look like they provide the correct offset and will not result in shortened (outer) wheel bearing life. On your model year, front wheel bearing replacement means you get to buy a whole hub assembly to get that lonely outer wheel bearing, and to buy a quality assembly, like from Ford, rather than a crappy quality one, like from China on Ebay, it takes enough bucks (each) that it's gonna catch your attention. Check it out. The rears aren't so bad, mostly a matter of labor and not bearing cost, assuming you do the work yourself.

Something to think about is, if you want it to look *cool*, how many miles do you drive it per year and is the more than likely hub assembly cost worth it. If it's a secondary vehicle and you don't put very many miles on it in a year, then you may never eat up a wheel bearing(s). But as a daily driver, you've got something to consider, especially in light of those bearing already having miles on them. Not trying to rain on the parade here, but just to make you aware of the eventual consequences of altering the current zero offset to one that puts extra load and wear on the outer wheel bearing. If you do proceed with the spacers, and to keep you work moving without disruption, remember to buy longer wheel studs at the same time.

 

ok billy i didnt know any of that! thank you so much! It is my daily driver and I drive her a lot so i might hold off on the spacers, but what are the wheel studs? can you send me a pic or link of them? thanks!

 

if you buy the spacer adaptors, you wont need longer studs. There are a few guys on here that run them and I havent heard of any issues. Yes they do put more pressure on your bearings but if your going with an inch or inch and a half spacer, you wont have very much of the bearings life reduced but if your looking at a huge amount then it starts to get worse. A lot of people on here run aftermarket rims with different backspacing that pushes there rims out farther with no problems which is basically like running a spacer.

 

ohh alright i did not know that, i was thinking about doing just an inch or maybe inch and a quarter, i put on about 50 miles a day daily driving though....

 

Wheel studs are what your lug nut screws onto, no pic required for that, right? lf you move the wheel farther from the rotor, as an example, you will have fewer threads for the lug bolt to engage with and depending on the current stud length and spacer width, you may not be able to bolt the wheel on. If you fail to have sufficient wheel stud length, you risk pulling the threads out of the lug nut. If you do the math on what an inch of offset does, you may be surprised to learn just how significantly you have altered the loading on that bearing. It wasn't until I earned two degrees in Mechanical Engineering (six years in college and the university) and spent years analyzing and designing fatigue critical equipment that I realized how dense I was when I did it. Look at the bright side, I tried it back when I didn't understand and I only stretched my wheel studs and ruined a spendy wheel and figured it out it in a parking lot, nobody got hurt; it could easily have been a wheel flying off on an interstate with a much different outcome.
