So I posted this in my RCD purchase thread, but I'm thinking I may get some more feedback in this section:

Due to the backspacing on my current wheels (4.5") I am going to need new wheels and tires when my RCD lift gets installed. So because of this, I'm thinking of going all out and getting five of the 15x9 Trail Ready HD Beadlocks (real ones - not 'simulation style') with 4" of backspacing.

Anyone think there will be any issues with the 4" backspacing rubbing on the sway bar or RCD items? My current 285/75/16's rub on full lock only, but when I go to the wider 12.5" tire; I want to make sure I'm further away.

I'll have them powder coated satin black, and get the locking ring with a black anodized finish (thinking of using the 'World Ring' style). I'm thinking that will look pretty damn good with some brand new 35x12.5 Goodyear MT/R's wrapped around them!

What do you guys think?

 

Are the bead-locks legal where you live?

Not really sweating that part...I figure that most officers wouldn't be able to spot the real ones from fake ones anyway.

I figure worst case; it’s going to be a ‘fix it ticket’ type of a deal. If that were to actually happen, I don't have a problem taking care of it...I figure you 'gotta pay to play'.

Plus being in Colorado, there are tons of rigs driving around with ‘major off-road modifications’ - mine would just blend in now! lol

 

Maybe the polished ring. It would stand out a little more.

 

you don't have to worry about beadlocks on the street. Some people say they have been stopped because they were running beadlocks, and i am sure they have, but you have a better chance of getting in a car wreck than being pulled over for beadlocks. Now if you're out there driving like a dumb ***, wheeling on land you shouldn't be, slinging rocks and **** all over the car behind you, then you may get stopped for being a doucher, and they will write you up for the bead locks. If you drive like you have some sense, wheel where you should, you'll never have an issue

I have multiple friends who run these wheels on the DD weekend wheeler. They are a fantastic wheel. All my friends who are running them are solid axle rigs, so i can't say anything to help with the RCD part. I would think 4" backspacing would be suffient though.

I always get nervous before purchasing wheels in terms of the clearances and everything, so the more input the better!

 

I like those wheels a lot and think that 4" will be enough. Although I don't think its smart to run them all the time on the street if its illegal.

 

Yeah, but my concern is if it will be extend too far in. Currently I rub at full lock on the sway bar, so I think I'll be a little further away with this new setup even though I will have larger tires.

I hear you. But I actually don't think there is a specific law here in Colorado against using them...it seems that most local off-road forums seem to state the same thing.

I'm sure a person could still get a ticket related to an 'aftermarket/unapproved vehicle modification' if they wanted to give you one...but then again, if that happens, I'm sure the driver was doing something else to warrant it (like Josh40601 said).

I drove in San Diego with side pipes, 38s, bead locks, no flares, no mud flaps. Never got pulled over for it. When I did get pulled over for speeding, they didn't say anything about it

Like I said, there are more important people to stop on the roadways than a guy obaying the rules and running a bead lock wheel.

 

If his truck doesn't have commercial plates they are not illegal anywhere. This is very heavily discussed on top of that if I remember correctly those are DOT approved.

As for backspacing 3.75" is normally were most people want it.
