BFG A/T KO vs Mud T/A KM

Well I was looking at 31s and man do those BFG Muds look damn sexy! I was wondering how they do in sand and loose gravel compared to the A/t KO? Also how is tred ware do they really only last like 20k miles on the road?

the mt last forever mine currently have 65k on them and tread life is great they still have about 3/8" of tread left. and in dirt they are awsome same for mud and sand. they are the best tire imo.

A buddy of mine with an Excursion said he had Mud Terrain tires (doesnt remember what brand) and said he got about 22k miles on them and they went poop. But thats awesome if you got 65k on them. I like BFG A/T but dont really like the way they look just how they perform... However the Muds look badass and apparently out perform the A/Ts anyway

the weight of the excursion alone will destroy tires your ranger is so much lighter.

on road performance will be less appealin with the mts due to the fact that they have no siping in the tread. so if you have to contend with rain often, you will need to be more aware of your tires characteristics. They will last a considerable amount of time though. They preform very well offroad in any situation.

Id get the mts over the ats, with the only cons is the rain performance.

yea but if you know the tire and how to use it your set imo and and in the rain they are not that bad.

ive never had a problem with mine in the rain... i would take the m/t over the a/t any day of the week, unless u dont go offroad and u just want something that will last like 100k miles.

Na I trail run alot and hit the occasional mud pit.. It rains like 5 times a year here in AZ and when it does its like 3/8s of an inch if even that much. Most of the stuff Im on is sand and loose gravel which sucked with my rear 225s but since I shelled out a tiny bit of money and got 275s in the back I dont have near the traction problems, but I think I might do some 3" coil overs and 2" blocks in the rear and some 31 mudders to get me around

A/T's do a lot better in the sand than M/T's. If you're only hitting "the occasional mud pit" and be mostly on sand and gravel, A/T's would suite you much better.

I will tell you from experience, I had the Cooper Discovery STT, they will sink in the sand. I was driving on the beach before and if you give it too much gas, it will just dig and sink. I was also pulling a trailor around a sandy area with my quad on it, and sank too. The BFG AT's would be much better in the sand than any MT.

id get the ats. they are aggressive enough to get threw some mild mild mud, but will perform alot better in the sand. mts are poo in sand most of the time. they can dig to china faster than an explorer.

Ironsin.....

You might check some AZ 4x4 sites. I can't think of any off hand, but out here in our terrain I find the BFG MTs much better over the BFG ATs. They do fine in sand and gravel out here in NM and grip a helluva lot better on rock and packed trails than the ATs. There's some local trails I've done countless trips through. Trails that I'd call moderate. There have been instances where had I still had my ATs I'd probably have to use 4x4. Matter of fact I've gone places in 2wd with the MTs that the AT would have definitely required me to toggle on 4x4. Throw in your summer and winter monsoons that tend to be wetter than out monsoons here in NM and I'd side with the MTs. Rucker Canyon down in the Chiricahuas (Cochise Co) and SE of Douglas were fun as hell back during Labor Day Weekend 06 with all the rain and my MTs. My best friend's 97 4x4 ranger had mild trouble with his 31 BFG ATs. Me I was just flying around in the wet sand, no worries at all.
