Going from 14 to 15 inch wheels/tires

Each year the selection of tires available in P225/70R14 (14x6 rims) has gotten smaller. This is the size specified on my 1995 2wd Ranger. So I took the plunge and decided to go and order P225/70R15 tires on 15x7 rims. From reading the forum and such I know the gas mileage may go down but I do not drive far. What about clearance? Any other issues should be concerned about?

You will be fine, you are only increasing the tire size by 1 inch and the width will remain the same. You are running a 27.5 inch tire and your truck can comfortably run 30 inch or 31 inch with some trimming.

Thanks. I double checked with Discount Tire about the lug nuts and they said the new wheels will fit just like the originals. I knew it looked like clearance was ok but I wanted to check.

I made the switch

I now have 225/70R15 Cooper Discoverer A/T3 tires on 15 x 7" black Cragar rims. So far, so good. The tires are very quiet on the pavement and seem to handle the mud better.
