Can someone enlighten me on beadlocks? What are they for? I like the look of them. Are they worth having? How do you put them on or do you get the pros to do it? Are they expensive? Any links you can share?

I want to buy another set of mickeythompson classic 2's in black with chrome center cap, chrome lugs, and chrome beadlock. Is this doable or what

I believe most people running the classic II's have the simulated beadlocks and they are just for looks. And the beadlock is simply to keep the bead from coming off when offroading. Not really worth it for on road driving. Or even for light offroading.

Yeah I guess your right ... I just like the look a lot, it makes your truck look badass and gives it character IMO.

Conflicting reports. Cam had beadlocks on his truck that were fake and looked sweet.

 

See that looks really good. Probly adds like 10 extra hp to each wheel too. It's a no brainer. It's gotta be done .

Well from everything I read ( and that wasn't everything) it seems legal. But regardless I'm gonna go do 80 mph in a school zone and when the cop pulls me over I'll ask him what he thinks! .... < that's a joke

Those aren't illegal, they're fake beadlocks. Real beadlocks are illegal, those aren't real. Run-flat tire aren't either, some BMWs come stock with them.

Also how do you know beadlocks are illegal cause from my understanding, nobody knows for sure it's just people saying they are illegal, and then more people saying they are not. Haha

 

Yeah the Classic Locks is actually what they are called.

It might depend on your state if the bead locks aren't street legal or not, I know for mosts they aren't though. Call your DOT or DMV and ask them, they will know for sure.

Someone else is going to have to explain why they aren't street legal. I see it sort of like HID retro-fits and to dark window tint. You won't pass inspection with it but its not really going to kill you either.

True bead locks sandwich the outside bead between a lip on the wheel and the other lock ring. The ring is then bolted I'm place to pinch and lock the outer bead to the wheel. This allows the tire to be aired down lower and have the tire still stay on the rim. They are not legal for street use
In most states due to the bolts. If the bolts Posen the bead can unseat from the rim, could be dangerous. For this reason many do not have a dot stamp on them.

Simulated bead locks on the other hand are perfectly legal
