How will my truck act when I upgrade...
When I put 31X10.5 bfg a/t's to repalce my stock 235/75/r15.
I have a 2000 xlt 3.0 auto 4x4 that is completly stock. Will my mpg drop alot? Will I be able to get off the line at all? The truck is kinda a dog off the line already untill I get it up into the powerband. Any recomendatios or input from anyone that has done this would be great! Thanks Charles |
There won't be much of a difference, I had that set up on my old truck except I went to a mud terrain. It was fine.

well, since you've got a 2000 3.0, which is about 140 h.p. and 3.73 gearing, if your going with a 31X10.50, i'd re - gear to at least 4.10's. because if your truck is a dog off the line now at 235's, see what happens with 31X10.50's

140? my old 94 had 145 stock.. so im sure it probably has 145-148. but i agree with Terrence, if your truck feels like a dog now with those tires, then it might get a little worse. BUT you can always regear.

Regearing to some 4.10s would be nice but its not like the 3.0 is fast stock... So basically you will notice a bit of power loss, but personally i didn’t care because it wasn’t like i was fast to begin with.
As for MPG you may loose .5mpg but nothing worth worrying about. In the future tho if you calculate your MPG take in consideration the larger diameter (IE i add 1 mile for every 10 on my tripometer when i calculate my MPGs) |
you'll notice the lost. I did the same thing. Right now I'm geared at 4.10's if that counts for anything. Highway is much better and i get 20mpg city driving. I think I got 23-27 mpg on the highway. not to bad, that was coming back from NH, I'm sure going up there I got bad gas mileage as it was all up hill.
