thats what i was thinking too. i'm going to take it to a friend of mine tomorow and do a compresion test and look at a few other things just to make shure befor i start looking for a replacement motor cus like i said i just got the truck and after putting on the road i don't have a lot of cash to spend on it right now i'm just hoping that it will last a few months till i can put some money together for a newer motor like a 3l or 4l out of a newer truck or at least thats the plan any ways.

If you do a motor swap and you not planning on going to a v8. Deff. do the 4.0 swap not the 3.0. The 3.0 would just be a waste of time and with the 4.0 you could still use your tranny and stuff.

I had a 91 ranger and it was having trouble at top speeds so I took it to the shop and they said I had a leaky head gasket. This might be a possibility.
