3.55s and 32s or 33s

I have a 4.0 auto w/ 3.55s. I was going to put 33s on it with a 3" lift. Sounds like it's a bad idea with that kind of gearing for power, daily driving and mpg. Is it that big of a difference? What about going with some 32s instead? Would that be any better? Or should I just get 31s and not lift it?

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Jeff

32's wouldn't be any better......i would say you are 2wd correct? if so i would get the 3" lift and 31's....if you are going to get 32's or 33's i would say you need to regear!

I have 3.0 with 3.73's

It's deathly slow (about like a 4cyl geo metro) but it can hold its own in the upper rpm range. It doesn't hold O/D on the hwy above 65mph either.

But you'll be fine. If it becomes a problem, do the explorer axle swap or something

You won't have any problems. Try 33's, it's cheaper to do an axle swap than to buy new tires b/c you hate 32's.

32s vs 33s are going to be very similar in power. Not much of a difference.

I say do it, you'll be fine. The slowness doesn't even bother me when I look at how much it performs off road.

I also have efan, udp's, and intake/exhaust mods. It helped a lot. And I've heard with a bama programmer, it will feel like stock again.

I want to get 4.56's...but I think it may be too much gear. I'm swapping rears, so I want to do it right. I'm definetly getting an e-locker too, I may have to just settle for a powertrax (even though powertrax is not settling!!!)

rangerjustin, im not about speed either, but i just dont need to replace a tranny or motor Lol you know? i mean is it a HUGE difference in take off?? im about looks.. not racing, even though i do need some power.. i just think if i bought the 31's i wont be happy with it.. i mean whats the difference between 31 and 33? only 2 inches is it that big of power loss? Also someone at my parents work (a mechanic) said that ill ruin the transmission and stuff.. Lets just say i did want to put lower gears in.. how much would it cost (i have a 4x4) to get the gears and put them in ?? i wont be able to put them in..

I was thinking about 4.56's and 33's too...I priced around...

It will be about 300 per axle...so I would expect for a 4x4 anywhere from 500-800 dollars to regear.

Thats just pricing around in South Florida, I dunno where your at.
