ok so im new to big tires as in my sig. I had them mounted and balanced at my buddy's used tire place and im not sure if he has his machine calibrated or not? But anyways my rear end wiggles from side to side and the steering wheel shakes a lil but only at certian speeds and some worse than others. The tires are brand new and just had the re-alignment done at dealer...so im thinkin the tires are outta balance, and yes i checked to make sure wheels are on good and i have factory lugs that are beveled so i know there centered. aslo the wheels are balance inside/outside.

 

I would take it to a different place and get them to recheck the balance on the wheels.

 

I worked part time at a tire shop and remember being told that the bigger the tires are the more difficult it is to balance them, if at all.

I could agree with that. This dude would bring his POS '79 Toyota with 36's in every week or so for balancing. I hated that truck.

Yeah i found a "professional" tire shop that said they would do it for $30. So thats where i may go tomm. if i get time at all this weekend. It'll prob stay in the driveway all weekend anyways..lol.

Yeah that's what i hear too. more difficult to balance BUT can be done. Aslo i think they dont hold there balance as long as normal sized tires either.

LOL WUT??? you gotta have weights somewhere. there's no such thing as a perfectly balanced TIRE........

 

sounds like your rear tires are out of balance. theres people out there that believe that you will not feel inbalanced tires on ther rear. you will.. take it back in there, you already paid them and have them rebalance all of them to make sure its right.

another thing to think about it the possibility of an out of round tire. at my store we have a $14k balancer that lets us test both the wheel and tire seperatly for any out of round(ness?). if there is a slight amount on either we can actually line up the tire on the wheel to offset the problem. kinda crazy ehh?

anyways have them rebalance all 4 tires

 

^^^ We have that machine at our school... awesome lol Tells you how to phase match the tire to the wheel... makes a HUGE difference sometimes

You ever heard of balacing beads? You can either buy the fancy beads or make your own... I know a few people used air soft beads from walmart... I'm gonna try copper bbs in my swampers... Just a thought... its neat because it balances the tire constantly.... so say you get snow packed in your wheel... instead of it making it unbalance... the beads move to different places to compensate for the snow... leaving you with a balance tire.... pretty cool

yeah i thought about the outta round thing too but i really hope not since i bought these from discount tire direct and the fact they have already been mounted!? I really dont wanna take it back to the same guy if his balancer is whack..lol. i did already pay for it but i dont mind payin to have them rebalanced by a noteable professional if it will fix it. like i said it goes away at certian speeds so i'm just hopeing its a balance problem.

there are all sorts of products on the market. here's two i've had experience with:

they work quite well, but you need to make sure you don't get moisture in there, otherwise the powder will clump and not work.

i've also heard of liquid balancing, not too sure on that one though...

 

You should get those balancing beads, I think they are called dynabeads. They are supposed to work extremely well, the only thing that stops me from getting them is that supposedly if you have any patches in your tires they will mess up the patch. And unfortunately for me right after I got my wheels and tires I ran over a big piece of aluminum and it got stuck in my tire so I had to get a patch in one tire.

WOW!! i like that and the tire store that said they would do the balance also does nitrogen!! Def thinkin about those beads that easy and simple!!!

its the OLD style of balancing before machines lol... that unit was made in the 50's i do all mine with stick on weights in the inside truck drives great

they still sell them but the "new" style is so cheap and crappy.. i got mine at a swap meet actually...

Well i appreciate the offer anyways. I think im just gonna go to this tire store and get them rebalanced and try out the nitrogen and see whats up with that.

 

If its free do it, if they want to charge extra don't. I have to get mine aligned and balance checked this week for the big trip.
