alcoas, 33" BFGs, spare tire

okay so i found a set of four alcoas at the local "auto recycler". they want $400 for the set sans center caps, i can deal with that, they're in pretty decent shape.

the truck is a 2006 FX4 non-LII

i would like to put on 33x10.50R15 BFG at/ko tires, which according to BFG, are 32.7" tall. my understanding is that i will likley need to crank the torsion bars, which i would be nice to level out the truck anyways. will the tires rub at full crank?

also, will a matching 33" spare fit under the truck? i seriously doubt it, but i haven't tried. i guess i could always track down a fifth alcoa and a fifth BFG and run five tires in rotation, and just keep the spare in the bed.

I run that setup on my truck with the M/Ts. Every once in a while I get a small rub at full lock but nothing that shows on the tire. The spare does not fit under the bed at full psi. I just leave it in the locked bed.

The spare does fit under the bed actually. PM Alon@modbargins.com I'm 99% positive he ran a 33 under the bed.

oh, one more thing, how or did it affect your fuel economy? my combined average in the summer is about 20MPG, and i would like to keep it around there hopefully which is another good reason why i'm interested in a 10.50" width tire as opposed to a 12.50" width.

hopefully the 4.10 gears will be well matched to a 33" tire, it would seem that they are overkill for a 31" tire!

well you have a FX4 so I'm pretty sure that only came with the 4.0SOHC engine. With that 4.10's and 33's you will probably gain a few MPG cruising but might just stay close to the same around town. You'll cruise at lower RPM's and I figure you have enough power to turn the wheel's going up steep hills.

I have a 3.0L and 5 speed manual and I'm thinking about putting on some 33's with 4.10's if that makes you feel better.

ace: what mileage were you getting with your truck stock? are you an agressive driver?

i would likely be getting a power programmer to correct the speedo, so that could help to (although i'll be realistic and not expect fantastic results!) offset the power loss, and potentially the mileage loss, or supplement a potential mileage gain! only one way to find out!

anyone know what a set of center caps for the alcoas is worth since this set is missing them?

To be honest I only made a half assed attempt to get the spare under the bed. It didn't want to go so I tossed it in the bed and haven't messed with it since. T-bars are cranked but they have sagged over time so I don't think the truck is much higher in the front than it was stock.

Don't have any clean driveway shots for you but here's a few you can figure out the stance from.

rear stuff

I know I couldn't even fit a 31" tire under my bed. Now granted it would be pretty easy to grind off the tabs that were blocking the tire and get it to fit, but without some modifications you won't get a 33" tire to fit.
