Looking For Tire Recommendations Read!

Ok, right now I have 15x8 MT Classic II's with 32x11.50x15's. I don't particularly like the setup on my truck, so I want to change it! I want to go back to the stock 16x7 FX4/Edge 5 spoke rims. The thing is, I don't know which tire size or tire to go with. I want something that looks aggressive, although I'll be honest, I don't do much, if any, offroading due to it being my only form of transportation. I do want something a tad bigger than what I have now. I was looking and found a few tires in the 285/75/16 size that I like. Here they are, please post up positives or negatives on all/any tires:

BF Goodrich All Terrain
BF Goodrich Mud Terrain
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R
Mickey Thompson Baja Radial ATZ
Pro Comp Radial Mud Terrain
Pro Comp Radial X Terrain

Again, price isn't really that much of an issue, nothing over 230 per tire though. I drive to and from work Monday through Friday, only about 5 miles one way. On the weekends, I might take it to the beach (on sand), or through a field to go fishing. We rarely get snow here, but I want to have something that will drive good in it. Also, rain traction is pretty important. Thanks for any help in advance!

I have the MT MTZ and love them. They are great in the rain and sand so far. I havent really tested them in the florida muck or mudd yet. But hope to soon.

How are they wearing, what kind of mileage do you expect out of them?

gatorblue92 Sep 20, 2007 05:36 AM

im on my 2nd set of bfg a/t's and i love em... they last forever if you rotate them correctly

05RangerXLT Sep 20, 2007 06:22 AM

I have them now and I do love them, just looking to see if there is anything better performing/looking than these. Not that I need performance, I just want a good looking tire that will wear good and last about 30-50,000 miles.

I kind of really like the looks of these for a AT tire

or the MT ATZ tire

you might want to also check out the Mickey Thompson MTX's. they are a nice A/T with a aggressive look. They are going to be my next tire once I sell my BFG's.

I think I really like those ATZ's that you posted up Zach. I just wonder what tread life is like? Do you think local tire shops would mount a 305/70/16 on a 16x7 rim, if the manufacturer suggests at least an 8" rim?

i dont see why they wouldnt. i know the shop local by me would.

those ATZ are suppose to be pretty good. 01xltranger4x4 his dad has them on his f250, they look great and i dont think he has complained about them.

I also like this tire too... the baja MTZ:

casfz1 Sep 20, 2007 06:48 AM

why not just go with a 285x75x16 just as tall but 1" narrower and rated fro a 7.5 rim.

05RangerXLT Sep 20, 2007 06:48 AM

The only thing I worry about with that tire Zach is the way they will look in my size... It seems they look different with larger rims. Here is the picture summit has of them:

I can't find hardly any tires in the 15" metric size.

Edit: I assume you meant 16" rim.

casfz1 Sep 20, 2007 06:51 AM

yes I meant 16. it's been a long night, just got off work.

no there are 2 different types of MT ATZ tires. those are different

zabeard Sep 20, 2007 06:57 AM

here is a site that lists both ATZs

casfz1 Sep 20, 2007 06:59 AM

Zach you might of changed my mind on new tires. There is a tire store by me that carries the full line of MT I think I might have to stop by there and take a look.

Edit: never mind the style I like the smallest size in a 16 is a 395x55 (33x15.50)

05RangerXLT Sep 20, 2007 07:02 AM

Zach, how do I know what I'm getting when I order then? Neither are really distinguished by changes in the name, both are the exact same name.

ehhh... nevermind, the good looking ones don't come in a size I can use.

zabeard Sep 20, 2007 07:19 AM

Wait I dont see the issue?

The ATZ radial plus are the ones that no ones likes, the look like a heavy truck tire found here
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/t...aATZRadialPlus

The ATZ radial comes in the 285/75/16 check the MT link i posted earlier. here
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/t...=BajaATZRadial
NTWONLINE.com must not have the 285/75/16 in stock.

http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/t...=BajaATZRadial

READ that link...

05RangerXLT Sep 20, 2007 07:22 AM

Gotcha... so they do have it.

zabeard Sep 20, 2007 07:27 AM

I bet summit can get them I would call. Most of those sizes and that tire is pretty new they might not have all the site stuff updated

karrbass4life Sep 20, 2007 09:51 AM

It's not in your list but I'd look at the Toyo Open Country A/T. Like you I wanted that look and I didn't really wheel any. I have them mounted to the 16x7 Teardrop rims right now. They can be had for around $100-$150 each.
