A guy near me put some 31" Sidewinder radial A/T's for sale dirt cheap near me. Anyone ever hear of these? They look comparable to a BFG A/T

This is what they look like:

got that from here: http://www.friendtire.com/products/brigadier.cfm

In my experience, off brand tires are crap, but if they are really cheap, are in good shape, and have a lot of tread they might be worth buying. I just would not expect them to last all that long or perform as well as a better brand.

Take a look at General Grabber AT/2 tires. I got them for my wifes Escape and they are great. Petersens said they were better in many ways than the BFG they closely model.

They even have the rim protector. They're cheaper than BFG's also, but not a substandard tire.

Couple of references:

http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT...abber-AT-2.htm

http://www.4x4review.com/products/tires/atgrabbers.asp

A major difference in them would be that they are 2 ply (4 ply rated) sidewalls as opposed to the 3 ply (6 ply rated) walls of the BFG. But then, the cheapie you linked doesn't have great sidewalls either, most likely.

Biggest problem I see with the one you showed is that there is no side exit for water from the tread. The continuous edge tread will interfere with water displacement and could lead to easier hydroplaning.

Do yourself a favor, and go to all the tire shops and ask, and price out similar tires.

I was looking at getting new tires for my Dodge. I went to EVERY tire shop in the valley, and they are all different priced, and have treads similar to the ones I was looking at, or have better tread for cheaper.

The first place I went to was Les Shwab because I have done most of my business there for my Ranger. They wanted $1700 for 4 tires and shocks all around and a realignment. I went down to a different tire shop that I have heard is better then Shwab, and they only wanted $1300 for a better tire, and the shocks and a realignment. I went to two other shops, and they had similar tires and prices.

You just have to shop around, and the best way to do that is to just go and ask. Honestly, I would rather shop face to face with someone then online.

for 500 you'll be able to get some smaller sized BFG A/T's for around 500.. but thats -just- for tires not counting mounting/alignment (if needed), truck tires arent cheap unless youve got a dropped rig with lots smaller tires =)
