So I've made the decision to drop down from 16 to 15 and to go from A/T's to M/T's. I have driven with DumpedMK3 and he is running km2's. They have alot of sidewall flex that would worry me since I'm top heavy. Plus they vibrate like crazy coming off the line.

I like my A/T's for their smooth ride and great tread wear but their just not that agressive looking IMO.

So my question is, what M/T will have the best on road handling(as it will stay on the pavement most of the time) and have decent tread wear.

The tires I'm looking at are as follows....
Mickey Thompson MTZ's
BFG KM2's
Toyo OpenCountry M/T's

Get either MTZ's or KM2's. Both of them have a mean look and from what ive read perform very well.

 

KM2'S. These will be my next tire for sure. Don't get a mud tire if you want on road performance. It's a double negative. You have to take your lumps. Aggressive look or smooth ride, its next to impossible to have both. But from what I hear, the KM2's are quite quite.

 

Toyos will last the longest! Helluva tire..

 

Helluva hefty price tag on them as well.

 

don't flame me too much, but I've got the definity dakota M/Ts. i really like them. Haven't been off road yet, but they're quite and great in the rain.

 

I thought you got BFG M/T's?

I have whatever les schwab put on my buddies old truck, and while they are loud, they perform pretty well. Braking sucks, though, lol. Vibrates like a crack head coming off his high.

 

i personally like BFGoodrich they make awesome tires i would like a set of all terrains or mud terrains got my buddie to switch to the bfg at from a pro comp mt and his truck actually works better off road with the at than those mt's because pro comp just sucks

 

I did until someone decided that my left rear tire had too much air in it and deflated it for me... with a knife. i didn't mind too much really because the front left tire had a screw in it and was leaking.

I like my KM2's, also loved my Cooper STT's. The Toyo Open Country Mud terrains will last a long time, good tire.

yeah, i agree with brian.. I hate to say it, but for what you waht, you may just want to go with a cooper st or stt.. Have you thought about getting a more aggressive AT? the ST is technically an AT, but its pretty aggressive.

 

Why not get AT's if you do alot of pavement driving they handle better and feel better.

i would say buckshots also, decent price, decent tire.. ran a set of 35's on my 03, never had a problem

Not exactly true. I have the new Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's with Kevlar and they have a very aggressive look and have a smoothe ride. They are very quiet on the road, amazing off road and handle awsome on wet roads.

 

Got any pics? I've been wanting to see what they look like on a truck.

 

Let me say something from first hand experience! If you plan on airing down, do NOT get KM2s.. I wont unless i have bead locks.

My buddy has them on his TJ and the sidewalls like to roll in a TON on side hills (at 10 psi), he's had dirt and crap jammed between the bead and had to scrape it out with a screw driver etc.. Our trucks are by far heavier than his little TJ. He loved his MTZs but got a real good deal on the bfgs, he said he was able to air the MTZs down to 6psi and never had an issue.

If you never air down, and just want a tire that rides good, works pretty good on flat ground and looks pretty, go ahead and get the KM2s


now onto the new MT/Rs.. i still think they look like poo. I saw 3 or 4 guys at Katemcy with them on their buggies and loved them but they were also running 40s+ on the flip side, even an all terrain would hook up real good out there, i ran my tires at 25psi and only slipped them a few times.

I've had this problem with mine running 12 psi. That "rim protector" lets stuff get jammed up in there.
