My mom, has gone crazy.

She is obsessed with the black shine on her tires.

I told her to stay away from tire shine, cleaners, etc.

So, she went out and bought this.

Please, help me convince her that it isn't worth it to have a shiny, brand new tire that will dry rot in a year. Especially down here in FL! Tires go quick.

She just bought Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires.

I dont like the shiny crap because most of it is oil which just ends up on your paint from sling. I use Black Magic Matte it gives it a deeper black look and dries nicely.

so ur saying that the tire shine will make the tires rot...or that the tires rot so fast down there that it is not worth the money to spend on tire shine cause ur tires will rot in a year any ways....neither of those make any sense....why are u worrying about what ur mom likes? if she likes her tires shinny so be it.....it seems like ur making it a huge deal? also how are we supposed to convince her...are we supposed to call her or something?....lol

tire shine helps the tires last cause they have uv protectant usually .... and yea as previously stated the downside is it being thrown on the car or if you live on a dirt road the dirt sticks.

yes sometimes it will sling but only if you like gob it on.... and yes usually they help to keep your tires freom rottiong and drying out. i use it on the outside but not the in cuz they are oil based and attrach dirt... i may apply it once every 3-4 washed and just use a wet cloth inbetween

I use the the matte black tire foam from Armor All. It has uv protectant.IMO shiny tires look stupid. Usually people just shine one side and you can see the non shinned side when they turn the corner. To mee it just seems phony like hubcaps I guess.

i just use the liquid white stuff from armorall. it doesnt actuall "shine" the tires. its more like darkening the tire and making it blacker and it dries really good and protects the tires. i usually spray all the tires and let it sit for a few minutes and then go back over with a rag to wipe it off to prevent sling. i like it bc i hate the wet shinny stuff. crap in the spray cans and everything is bad for the tires. believe me, i detailed cars for 2 years and the cars that stayed on the lot for several months tires turned a nasty *** brown that wouldnt go away even after chemicals. and some even did dryrot

Apparently some of you, not all of you, skipped chemistry.

Oil/Petroleum based products should not be put onto rubber based products.

I highly doubt something with such a high shine is water based.

Hyper Dressing is water based which is why you can dilute it. But yes, majority of over the counter dressings are oil/petroleum based which is why I use Hyper Dressing.

ive been using tire shine products for over 10 years and none of them have ruined any of my tires. i just sold my old 33" AT's that were on my ranger for almost 5 years that regularly had tire shine applied to them and there was not one sign of dry rot or cracking. what evidence to you have to prove that tire shine is damaging to tires?

Same here, been using it since I was 16 and washing my vehicles. I've never had any issues with dry rot or the substance ruining my tires.

It makes me laugh when people spend so much time on their tires but leave the wheel wells covered in mud. As soon as they move it all the dirt falls off and gets stuck to the sides of the tire lol

It bugs the hell out of me to not shine my tires after cleaning my truck. I have to clean the white letters with comet, and I have to shine the tires.

I've been using tire shine for years as well, on all my tires, and haven't had any tire rot.

i work at a tire shop and have never seen any signs of rot because of any kind of tire shine.

im not a huge fan of a wet shine. its a mess too when you have to handle your tires. i prefer a clean matte black.

Normally online. Some speciality auto repair/paint shops will carry it though.

The only retail store I have found that carries it is Sherwin Williams. If you don't have one of those in your area then I'd just get it online.
