3.27 and 32s

like it says can i run 32 with 3.27 gears i will be on the highway most of the time so i will get really good gas mileage and i will just have to use 4L when i off road.
is all that right or will it be a real pain the a$$ or will i screw stuff up and need to regear i really dont want to regear so.????

That things gunna be a dog.. Will prolly work for a while but I wouldn't want to run that set-up for any length of time.. You'll prolly be down to like 3.08 on the gear ratio or something.. I say put in 4.10's.

It will be added strain on the drive train just because of heavier tires and super low gearing. I personally wouldn't do it...

what about 31s when you do the math to figure out the new gears needed it comes out to 3.55s and there isnt really a point to go from 3.27 to 3.55

Of course there is. That's almost 10% difference and you will feel it.

If you are hell bent on not re-gearing, I would not go larger than 31's. Remember that not only will the height of the tire slow you down and reduce mileage, but the weight plays a factor as well...

yeah i know but on the highway its not guna kill my mileage its the ago old trick of old hot rods they kept the same gears but put taller tires on so they would produce more speed, which make the gear ratio which make your rpms lower on the highway which produces better gas mileage that y when going from 4.10 and 235 tires to 35 and 4.10 your gas mileage gets better because you raise the gear ratio and the rpms are lower on the highway and around town. 31s wont hurt me on the highway if anything it will make it a little better but going around town it will hurt me gas but i dont drive around town much so im ushualy always on the the highway. and when i off road i only use 4l alot easier to use.

Except.. the motor is going to be working harder to get to speed and to maintain speed. so it is kinda a trade-off. Ask some guys on here with 35's if their gas mileage got better with the bigger tires. remember a 35" tire is much heavier than a 235 tire. The 35 is also wider and more rubber on the road equals more resistance which equals less gas mileage and a bigger footprint to stop. what your saying makes sense on paper, but not reality.

haha i love all these comments.. i ran that set up on a 2.3L for over a year... besides loosing 5th gear on the freeway it really wasnt a huge issue...

Lowering the RPM the engine turns does not guarantee an increase in fuel efficiency. It's all about how hard the engine is working (and how much fuel the injectors are flowing).

Anyone with a ScanGuage or equivalent tool can verify this by going down the highway in top gear. Observe MPG. Now step on the throttle (but not enough to downshift an auto). Observe MPG. It will be lower with very little RPM change.

Most people who increase tire size by more than 15% regear soon after the tire size change. What's more, when they regear to say, 4.10 or 4.56 or 5.13, notice an increase in fuel efficiency. I did and I went from 32x11.5 & 3.55 to 4.10 gears.

Ford was the worst, particularly in the '80s, about using funky ring & pinion ratios like 3.08 and 3.27.

3.27's with 32's is bad, but at least it isn't someone with 3.55's with 36's.. personally, if i were you i'd upgrade to 4.10's. just for peace of mind.

Just swap in the 4.10's.. Eventually youre going to want to get bigger tires than 32's.. So 4.10's might be a better option.

honestly with 32s, 4.10s will get you the best mileage. The age old trick of running the taller gear on the highway for better mileage worked great on carburated engines because of the way the carbs work and also because the engines tended to all have about 300 ft-lbs of torque at the low end at 1200 RPMs. With a modern fuel injected engine what has a torque peak of 2700 RPMs the most efficiant range of the engine is at 2700 RPMs when it will have to work the least.

my dad ran his 4.0 5spd with 3.08's and 32's. it wasnt bad because the 4.0 has enough low end to handle it

It will be a dog, but should be doable. I wouldnt go over 30" tires on that set of gears personally... actually i wouldnt go over 235/75/15's...

with a 4.0L I'd go with 3.73's and 32's but why go 3.73's if you can put 4.10's and then be able to add 33's later on down the road. I vote 4.10's and 32's. Then if you don't like the way it is you can always put 33's on it.

well im a poor highschool kid and school to be a poor college kid so i need me gas mileage for the highway so thats y i would of with a 3.73 and i cant fit 33s with just a body lift so thats y that

Tim you have a 2.3 and 4.10s and 31s i have a 4.0 so im not worried about 31s on my truck if i had 4.10 and enought lift i would run 4.10s and 35s
