rims and spacers

Ive recently started looking for a nice set of rims for my 02 ranger 4x2. ive decided to look for 20 inch rims along with a jdm 2/3 drop to take away some of that wheel-fender gap. only problem is i have a hard time finding a 2nd hand set that has the correct offset. i guess my question is...is there a way around this offset thing? i read about spacers and everything but i still dont quite get it. Could someone help me out with this..

nice look..are those 17s?.. anywayz..ive been up all nite lookin at this spacers and offset crud and im wondering iiiiiiiffffffff. say my truck requires a +15 offset...and i find a sweet set of rims with a +35 offset....same bolt pattern...(5x114.3) yada yada... sooo would i have to go look for 20mm (3/4in) spacer to adjust for that difference??? 15+20=35...is that how it works?? sorry my brains kinda laggin right now.. but any feed back would be highly appreciated..ALOHA!
