Nitrogen Tires
When i bought my new 2008 Ranger 4x4 the salesman asked me if i would
like the tires inflated with nitrogen instead of oxygen charging me 48 dollars a tire. does anybody have nitrogen in their tires what are the pros and cons Thank You. |
I have mine filled with Nitrogen as well...shouldn't be ANYWHERE close to $48 EACH though! I payed an extra $30-$40 TOTAL for mine......

Don't waste your money. There are things I could list that it does, but none of it is worth the money or time on a car or pickup truck.

Wow , When I got my tires 2 years ago they did this for free . I love it Ive never had a tire drop pressure and I have the tires serviced every 6K miles . I would recomend it but not for that much a tire , maybee if it was like 5 a tire but deff not 48 .
They haves pros but not so many to account for spending that much . |
Nitrogen is and effictive in cold weather climates. The Nitrogen atoms are much larger then those that are taken in from just the air around the tank. Some of which is nitrogen.
The fact that they want $192 to fill your tires is absurd. Go to Costco and have it done for free. |
Locally there's a special going on that's $10 for 4 tires. Normally like $10 a tire. But $200 for four...is just plain wrong. Retarded.
Air for me boys....I air down and air back up frequently in the winter time. |

Our atmosphire is 70 some odd % Nitrogen. They use 100% Nitrogen in Aircraft tires, because its inert(won't help feed a fire) there is really no other benift than that, that I can see.. |

1. I really hope they ment $48 total. 2. Costco will do it for free if they are BFGs or michelin. You just have to convince them that the tires were bought there. 3. The air you breath is 72-76% nitrogen. Eventually if the oxygen is seeping out of your tireswont you get left with just nitrogen? 4. unless its free or under $10 dont do it. |

On aircraft, it is more about moisture and pressure changes. Unless your plan on driving your truck up to 39,000ft, you should be fine with air.

Apparently, if my tires each cost $5000, gas is 10.50 a gallon, my truck gets 1 mile per gallon, and I drive well over 52 million miles a year... then...

I dont believe I saw it in this thread so here is another con: You can not air down a tire with nitrogen to go offroading with. Unless you carry a nitrogen bottle to refil your own tires later. And the price you listed is the same price that ford told me when they tried to sell me new tires.

We use nitrogen here at our store. I wasn't a believer until I put it in mine in November, when March rolled around I still had 27 psi in all of my tires (cold). Since then I'll always run it.

The main advantage of nitrogen fill is that having one gas makes it expand and contract uniformly so your pressure curve vs temperature will be reltatively flat. Also, there will be no water vapor in the tire to condense. |
