Nitto vs. Falken
 

1" BL and new tires are coming this summer. However I need to start saving money now for the tires. I will be running a 285/75/16 in a D ply.

I have narrowed it down to two tires. Nitto Terra Grapplers or Falken WildPeak A/T. I know a lot of people run the Nittos and I have heard zero negative feedback on them. But the Falkens are newer but less expensive than the Nittos by about $40-$50. 90% of the time I am on the street, so I need a good tire that will perform well in the rain and the light snow/ice that we get around here in TN and for the occasional off-road adventure.

So from yall's experience what is the best tire out of the two I have selected? How is the ride in a D-Ply and what tread life do you get?

Both are very good tires. I would go nitto(same as toyo) because from what I've seen working at a tire store they tend to wear alittle better. But all in all falken(made by ohtsu) is also a great tire. We carried them for quite awhile and I never heard any complaints whatsoever from customers. Another not so common tire is the wild country xtx. It's one of the few at's out there that is actually snow/ice rated and they come with a TON of siping and are actually pretty agressive in a 285. They have a 50,000 mile warranty but they tend to last a fair amount more than that.

Ok, I will look into those too. Who makes the Wild Country XTX? And are the Falkens and Nittos not ice/snow rated too? On the note of ice/snow rated, some how the sport king a/t's I have now are ice/snow rated. Which I have a hard time believing cause they have very very little siping compared to the nittos and falkens. Plus the rain performance of the sport kings is complete trash imo.

Thanks for the input. I see trucks of all sizes with Nittos on the wheels, so they must be a pretty good tire lol.

Most tires are M+S rated(mud snow). An actual snow/ice tire will have the snowflake or mountain on the sidewall.

Alright cool deal, thanks. Yeah the sport kings have the mountain with a snowflake on there. They should take that off there, because I got tons of more traction in snow/ice with the firestone destination a/t's that were on there previously.

But yes the only place I can find the xtx's is les schwab and they are made by multi-mile. Are they a sister group to another big company or there own entity? The reason I ask is b/c I got lured into the sport kings at the tire shop saying they were cheap and made by BFG at the time lol.

General Grabber AT2 are also a great tire and are a lot cheaper then the products you've listed. IMO out of the choices you've listed i'd get Nitto

Ok thanks. I looked at the Generals, they have a good looking tread, but what I have been reading the tread life is not as long as other tires.

But yeah I think I am going to go with the Nittos too. Good looks, great performance, and great wear. I considered the Duratracs, but they only come in a 10-ply in a 285/75/16 which would ride like a$$ on a Ranger lol.
