painting center caps?
What would be the best way to paint my stock center caps?
How should i prep it/what paint should i use? |
i'd clean it well with mineral spirits, even brake cleaner works fine for me. Krylon Fusion for plastics is probably a good choice.
|
No need to skuff em up or anything?
|
I probably would sand them then clean and prime too. I used that Krylon paint on my models and it works great.

I used that heavy duty rustoleum paint they sell at lowes when I did mine, it's been over a year and they haven't cracked or chipped. when I used some cheapo paint I had layin around they chipped off pretty good when I dinged em with the lug wrench.
That paint is very inexpensive anyways, I think it even comes in a larger than normal spray can |
Rustoleum works on everything!

I'd use that plastic adhesion for paint to make it stick better then paint

Here;s what i did...
cleaned them throughly using my carwashing stuff... let them dry masked off the ford oval. sprayed on duplicolor adhesion promotor(2 coats) then sprayed on rust oleum gloss black enamel(2 coats) i let them sit for a week since rust oleum takes effin' forever to cure. installed them and the same night i slipped on my tire when getting into the back of my truck and ended up kicking the snot out of the newly paint caps....NO DAMAGE AT ALL!! only because i'm a pic whore...
