Most of you know that I bought a F150...Well, the truck came with Toyo open country AT tires and they look to be almost new. So, I don’t like the tread on them but I figured I would run them for a while....

This is the worst tire EVER in the rain, I have had BFG AT's and MT's, Pro Comps, MTZ's, ATZ's, Nitto's and the list goes on, but these Toyo's stand alone compared to all the others. Every time it rains its like I'm driving on Ice, I can’t believe this tire is being sold and I can’t believe there isn’t some class action lawsuit against Toyo over how bad these tires are on wet surfaces. Anyways, I will be purchasing tires soon because I am sick at how bad these tires are on wet surfaces...these phuckers are dangerous!

 

I've heard a lot of stuff like this about them. My uncle has them and he likes them though so maybe he got a good set?

 

I agree there horrible tires, I had a set on my F150 for a day got a hell of a deal on 33's and I took them back. It was muddy out and I was all over the trail and I never had that issue with my firestone destination A/T's and there not even that aggressive of a tire....

 

I have as well, some say its a great tire in the rain while others, myself included think it's dangerous as hell...Its funny, I have never seen reviews for a regular AT tire that very as much as this one does. The fact that I have looked for reviews of this tire should tell you that these things are bad...lol I cant believe how bad these tires are in the rain, I feel safer driving the 93 with Pro Comp XTerrains.

 

ive also heard that about those tires. thats why i stick to my trusty BFG's

 

get some 35 inch km2s on your 150 seabass it will looks sick

 

They must be pretty bad, even my bfg at's suck *** in the rain. In the rain I ALWAYS spin them pulling away from a red light and sometimes life drift around turns.

 

There Open country M/T tires are awesome though!

 

I dont understand everyones hate for the toyos...maybe as they wear down they get worse idk, but so far I've had no problems with mine in the rain

 

You must drive like a bat out of hell then. Mine spun sometimes but thats only when I get in the pedal. The open diff didn't help either lol

 

^ If anything, I spin more now with the L/S back there.

I'm with Korey. When its wet out, I am almost always spinning when I take off and its not on purpose.

I'm not trying to hate on the tire, but as I stated i have had AT and MT tires, Pro Comp, Mickey T's, BFG's, Nitto's...etc and these are the worst in wet weather. I thought the Pro Comp XTerrains on my 93 were bad.

I will probably get me some MTZ's, loved the ones I had on my 04. They were great in the rain for a mud tire and all around I was very happy with them. Oh, I am probably going to go with a 33, I have 285's now and I like the look, so 33's will keep the look about the same.

 

I have the those. And I have had no problems with them. Of course I spin a little in the rain but its expected with a ranger. Maybe its different on heavier trucks?

 

33's are cool but not as cool as 35's on a FULLSIZE PICKUP

 

How? I dont spin at all unless I try to with a LS and MTs now. MTs are supposed to be worse than ATs in the rain.

 

Lol not in the rain I don't, I take it easy and it still spins them even with the 3.killmyself. I'm open too.

Interesting, I never had that problem with mine. It would drift out pretty easily though

 

I dont know. I feel them both grab and the *** in starts to swing around.Maybe goin from 3.73 to 4.10 game me a little more juice. Doubt it but maybe

 

Funny, you guys talk like the BFG ATs are so much better. lol. The only time I've ever had a scary moment on wet pavement was with BFG AT's and they were NOT old. Nearly rolled the truck. And that was before I was lifted. I would spin way too easily from a stop too, I had to baby it all the time.

Never had this problem with my Toyo AT's in wet weather. I love em. In fact it just rained here for the first time in 6 months a few weeks back, no problems to speak of. Grip was great. With my BFG AT's it was always interesting driving in the first rain in 6 months. This forum is the only place I've ever seen hate for the Toyo ATs and I looked at alot of feedback before getting them.

And saying that the Nitto TG AT's are better than the Toyo ATs makes no sense. If you don't know what I mean, do some research lol

 

I would have to agree. I have them, and yes they hydroplane, but no worse than the BFGs I used to have. When you have a wide tire, they are going to hydroplane, regardless. I have more than 10k miles on mine, and they look like they are brand new. I like mine. Must be different with a full size truck.

 

I think this sums things up pretty well...clearly everyone has a difference of opinion and clearly everyone has different experiences with tires. While im not saying anyone drives like an *******, your driving habits need to change with varying weather conditions and you obviously can't punch the gas off a red light and expect to have excellent traction when the road is wet, with a small RWD truck, reguardless of your tires.

 

So far so good with my tires i put 30x9.5 15's on my truck and after i got them it rained for a few days and i have yet to experince any slippage or spinning the tires off the line.
