2010 Rear Disc Caliper / Wheel Conflict

Hey guys,

Went to my dealer today to get my winter wheels put on my 2010 Ranger Sport 2WD (I tried doing it myself but I get really annoyed with my Alum Alloys corroding and sticking to the bolts)

So the mechanic came out to me and told me he couldn't do it as the rear calipers were too big and blocked the wheels from spinning; the front wheels were fine. My rims are 15" steelies I purchased from Ford in 2007 for my 2007 Ranger Sport 2WD. The 2007's had rear drum brakes, whereas the 2010+ models have 4-wheel discs.

I asked the guy to make sure the parking brake wasn't on and the truck wasn't in gear (you never know), but he assured me the parking brake wasn't engaged, and the truck was in neutral (I didn't check for myself since the truck was on a lift)... then he showed me how he could spin the hub without the wheel being attached, and how it wouldn't spin when it was.

I'm going to investigate for myself tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone has run into this issue, or has any useful information? I've just tried searching here and on google for the last two hours, but I keep finding irrelevant results. Not to mention I've compared wheel part #s from 2007 with 2010, and they are identical suggesting they should be compatible.

Thanks for any replys!

Anybody got any insight on this?

I jacked it up yesterday and checked her out - the wheels rub on the rear calipers. Anyone got suggestions? I don't want to go to 16" wheels since I've already got my tires for the 15's

LOL. I like my axle more than my wheels/tires.
I'm just wondering if I need to look into purchasing a 16" set of wheels and tires, or if i can find some 15" that fit and keep my current winter tires. My stock rim size is 15"

Ya, its rubbing on the inner side part of the rim that sticks out. Doesn't touch the inner face of the wheel - just the side.
I attached a picture that shows the inside of the rim with the caliper touching the wheel. I tried backing out after putting the wheels on and I heard it rubbing, so i climbed under and took a look - this is what I saw.

i would get a set of spacers and run those cheaper than buying a new set of wheels.

You'll typically only have that problem with steelies--aluminum wheels should clear OK

Got some technical drawings of the rims i bought (Dad works at the Distribution Centre in town, and got them from the inspection dept.) The rims won't fit on a 2010, or anything with rear disc brakes. Aftermarket rims should be okay, but not the steelies bought from Ford for an '07. Kind of lame.. time to search for some.

I'm gonna look into those spacers, much cheaper than buying new rims.. and dealing with selling these.

morris - how did you get rid of the holes after taking your wheel flares off? Loooks beautiful, i want to do it, but don't know what to do with the holes!!

XLT's of this gen don't come with flares. Fx4's had to be specially ordered w/o them. I have seen like 2 fx4 trucks w/o them.
