Well, heres my deal. Gas prices around here are in the 2.40-2.50 range and approaching 3 bucks a gallon, which it will be this summer. I also tow my boat alot through the summer. With the 33's and being lifted, I get terrible gas mileage especially since it wasn't too great to begin with. Also, the 3rd-4th shift is spread too far apart now with the increased diameter tires and its right in the middle of my cruising speed, especially when towing. Soooo, I want to tear the spindles off, pull the AAL's and shackles along with the blocks and get it down and level. I want to sell my current wheels/tires and lift stuff and buy some 17s or 18s of some sort and some more street friendly tires... Kumho Ecstas or something similiar. I need to do it on a budget, not too tight but I'm not flowing with cash. Could someone give me some advice on affordable wheels/tires as I am not in the loop with the street stuff. Thanks in Advance, pics and links are especially helpful for my dumbass...


Cliff Notes: Want 17s or 18s and junk the lift and go low(er) ... Point me in the right direction... Cheap too, I'm poor...

 

With your TB's, it's going to be tough to lower your edge *correctly* and cheaply at the same time.

The rear is simple....remove the Edge lift block from the leaf spring, and flip the shackles. That's a free drop that will lower a stock truck around 2.5".

The front is the beeyotch. If you flip the keys, you might go lower than expected. I have coils though, so someone will know more than me on TB.

Concerning wheels, Eagle probably has the cheapest 17's and 18's out there. What would be your max dollar for a set of 18's, with tires?

Also remember that if your main priority is comfort, go 17's. If you are more interested in looks/handling, go with 18's.

As for the TBs, I will yank the spindles and set the torsion bars back down a bit. I'm used to the damn thing riding like crap, can't get much worse...

 

I like the AR Torq Thrust II's... Maybe an 18" x ??" Not sure how much they run...

 

Most are 18x8......Try sears.....seriously......

Oh yea, what about offset or backspacing ??

 

Rangers have a +12mm offset.....My Saleen wheels are +24mm offset, so I'm using a 7/16" spacer (7/16 is roughly 12mm, so I'm making up for the gap perfectly). The Torque Thrust II is a poular mustang rim...so a +24 mm offset with the said spacer would work beautifully. But you may be able to get that wheel with a +12mm offset. The center cap might pose a problem for you. IMO, I would recommend the Mustang spec wheel, so you can use the spacer, clear your dust cap, and look good.

So, all you have to do is find out the backspacing of the wheel you're interested in, subtract the 12mm from that, and then convert the following number from metric to inches, and find a spacer that is very close.

Ex//

your favorite rim = 36mm offset.....minus Ranger's 12mm = 24mm difference.

1 inch = 25.4 mm, so a 1" ADAPTER would be best for that wheel. If the difference in spacing is more than 1/2", use an adapter. Otherwise, the stud length will not be long enough.

i'm also thinkin about rims too...i'm into the black rims right now though...

but i do like the saleen rims, but i'm not even a ford...so i coudnt rock those...

in the "hood" of 1g.. i say go 17's.. Tires are cheaper, and so are the wheels.. i was going to get FR500 wheels.. But i couldnt justify the right size tire/price combo.. too much..

I love my 18's. I have 18x9 Bullitts front and back. And have a 255/55/18 Kuhmo Ectsa STX tire. It has the same diameter as our stock edge tires. (Just at 28", I believe our 235's were like 27.8 or so). I have my torsion bars backed out a little and have the block removes. I also spent about 1200-1300 all together.

Hahah your stupid. My truck is stock XLT height, with the same height tire as stock. My truck is not consicered lowered when its the same height as another stock ranger. And of course the sidewall will be shorter when you have a bigger wheel than stock. Do you actually have some mearsurements of how tall your truck is? Or are you using "Oh yeah uuuhhh it looks the same".

Lowering a 4x4 on 31? If you do that I will staight up laugh at you :rofl:
