Spare tire question

Right now I have 31"s on the truck. The door sticker says it orignally came with 225's. Should I get a 31" tire for a spare or will I be ok with the 225 underneith? Will a 31" fit under the truck?

Well if your spare isn't the same as the rest you get to look like a goober if you ever use it... I'd get a full size so you can just pop it on and go... but I don't even have a spare so eh... haha

Ya, I was thinking about it yesterday since it was the first time I had to jack the truck up since I got 31"s to look at my ball joint.

i don't think a 31 will fit under the truck, especially if you have a hitch, i have the stock 225 under my truck with my hidden hitch, and there is maybe a half inch clearence

robert99ranger 03-15-2009 09:56 AM

Well that sucks then if it wont fit.

DisturbedESV 03-15-2009 10:03 AM

Yeh, nothing fits under there except stock... that's kinda why I never got a new spare (I don't want it in the bed).
You could always get a full size and keep it at home while you do daily driving and just drop it in the bed for wheeling...
My theory is I've only ever used my spare once and long story but it's 'cause someone let the air out of 2 tires... other than that I have 3 different roadside assistance coverages and I don't wheel so I'm not going to waste my time with a spare...

i was looking at my spare the other day when i was under my 06.

it looks like a 31 would fit up there, too bad i'm going 33s...

Mykhael 03-15-2009 10:46 AM

31" may fit, but remember that cable system was designed for a stock tire and rim

You may go to use it one day and it might not be there

robert99ranger 03-15-2009 05:28 PM

Ok well maybe I will fit my another rim and mount the tire on it. Put it up in there and see how it works for a while. There is a BFG All Terrain on craigslist for $50 so I was thinking about picking it up for the spare.

I had a 31" spare under my truck. But I went out to look at it just now and realized that some jackass stole it. So I wouldn't recommend doing that....

silverbullet32 03-15-2009 05:37 PM

i just use the original, if you get a flat, you shouldnt be driving too long on it anyway

Goodysgotacuda 03-15-2009 05:42 PM

IF you have a limited slip or plan on a locker, you MUST use a full size if you get a flat on the rear...

That being said, i have 31s, LSD and a stock spare. Because i dont have another 31 around and if i happen to get a flat on the rear...i'll have to just swap a front tire to the back. it'll take awhile, but it is what it is..

robert99ranger 03-15-2009 06:16 PM

Ok so should I try and mount it under or is there some other way I could mount it cheaply? I dont just want to throw it in the bed for all the time. I mean, i dont mind if it is for wheeling if i cant mount it under the bed.
