33's and 4:10 or 4:56?

For those running 33's are you happy with the stock 4:10 gears or wish you had installed 4:56's? I'm thinking 4:56 is the way to go to keep the tires turning in mud/sand and even on the highway. I'm not looking for charts to read, not worried about rpm's or mileage just looking for some real life experience from those that have that combo.

I'm satisfied with my 4.10's for the time being. I'm getting a tuner soon to hold me over until late next year. I'll get 4.56's then

4:10's and no complaints here... I haven't really kept track of my mileage after the lift and tires but its not terrible.

since you arent worried about mpg i would go with 4.56. I am currently running 4.88s with 33's and I dont have any problem at all turning all 4 tires due to the locker and l/s, handles hills a lot better, tows better and its fun to drive!

4.56 all the way. I pull down better mileage with 4.56 and 33's than i did with my 4.10 and 33's. Proper gearing is very important.

Agreed. My mileage sucks now with the 4.10's. The tuner will help, then I can save for the 4.56's

What kind of milage you get with 4.56s? I dont get too bad with 4.10s bout 18 or so usually.

Last long trip I took I averaged 18.5 MPG. Best I ever got from my truck, better than I ever did stock was with 4.56 gears and 33's. Averaged 22 MPG's on a 700+ mile trip going 70 all highway.

I'm satisfied enough with my 33's and 4.10's. It isn't bad. But 4.56's would be better.

My 91 octane performance tune helps though. I've "raced" an 04 4.0 with 31's and 4.10s from a dead stop to 50 or so. We were pretty even...I had him by maybe half a truck. His was an auto though, which is prob why I had him by a bit.

x2

I had this some setup for awhile, and had the same experiences. Just get a tuner and leave the regearing until you go over 33's - Then jump right to 4.88's.

I went one better with a tuner AND gears. A tuner helps no doubt but can never take place of proper gearing. My gear swap is one of my best mods I ever did for drive-ability, second would be my custom tunes.

I hear you there. That's why before I put my 35's on, I jumped right to the 4.88's.

Yeah a regear is a definite must with 35's. Thats really the only thing that has kept me from going to 35's, I dont want to regear again, but maybe thats a good thing. lol

never tracked my mileage but 4.10s and 33s are not a problem. my truck never has any power issues on hills, loaded bed, off road. i have not towed with the tires on so i cant make any suggestions there.
i have no problem breaking the rear tires loose on pavement so i dont see any need to regear my truck at this point. i drive all highway everyday now and my fuel economy still seems decent

I run 33x10.50s with stock 4.10 gearing, and I have no complaints.

Wider tires and wheels would definitely suck the power right out of it.

I can pound a nail in with a pair of pliers too, sure it works but it doesnt make it the right tool for the job. lol

Ha, thats not really a fair comparison. Its better to compare a small hammer that still gets the job done fine...with a bit more work...compared to a big hammer that would make your life easier. The truck is going to work a bit harder...but not to the point that its bad for the truck.

Even a mile above sea level, I have enough power to get around fine. Up at 8k+ feet in the hills...it kinda sucks but is still manageable. Maybe i'm just used to it.

Ha ha ok, maybe not a fair analogy but my point still remains. I had no idea what I was missing until I re geared then I kicked myself for waiting so long!

I can't wait to regear. My mileage dropped immediately. I need my tuner to get here faster

I wasn't aware the 4.10's would be that bad on 33's.

What kind of cash did you guys drop on gears if you don't mind telling? I can do it myself, but it seems like it'd be a pain.

i don't mind 4.10 and 33s. with the 4.0L i can break the rear tires loose on dry pavement without an issue, even on the economy tune.
4.56 would be pretty damn nice though
