Beadlock Wheels

Well its not going to be real soon, but probably near the end of winter I'll be putting on my first set of new tires (33's) and wheels. I like so many of all your setup's and I think my favorite wheel is the Mickey Thompson Classic Lock.

I think I'm going to go with 15x10 for size with the 3.625 in backspacing.

A few questions I have while I look into this:

1) What does a "functioning" beadlock do for the wheel? -as opposed to the non-functional beadlock on the Classic Locks
2) Will the polished aluminum finish last and not rust?
3) Did you guys have your wheels delivered to your home or order them through a tire and wheel store?

1. A functional beadlock actually has a ring seperate from the wheel that "locks" the tire between the ring and the wheel itself

2. The finish should be fine without any rust problems

3. If you have the wheels shipped to your home, look for the free shipping, if they dont have free shipping see if you can get the wheels ordered by a tire shop and usually they wont charge you shipping either because of the money they make off of it

Oh I know the Classic Locks are non-functional beadlocks, I was just saying. For some reason I kind of remember seeing a street legal beadlock on extreme 4x4. A average wheeler doesn't need beadlocks tho, so you'll be fine with a regular wheel.

yeah there is no bead lock that is functional extreme 4x4 said that in there area the bead locks weren't legal in there area but there are none that are street legal. you only want bead locks if your guna be off road and never drive it on road but the simulated bean locks they look pretty cool

Thanks Mark, I'm going to talk to my mechanic and see if he knows of any local tire shops that could be cheap with shipping... if not I'll start doing some online searches for free shipping.

What do you guys think of color matched beadlocks? Tacky or no?

i ordered my normal Classic IIs from discount, but i was getting tires too

a real bead lock *i believe* clamps the bead so it cant slip off, where as a simulated bead lock just has the ring and bolts it wont help keep a bead on if you air down..

an advantage to the simualted ones is that if your out wheeling, with the tires aired down or not, the ring will help protect the actual wheel if it slides along a rock or something

as for rust, i haven't had them long enough to tell you, i heard the salt and that good **** they put on the roads isnt great for em

depends on the color, my friends yoda is red with red bead locks and it looks good.

then again he has used them for the purpose described above haha

it depends on the state you live in to weather bead locks are illegal, i heard in Texas they're legal i would go ask a state trooper.
