Thin pair at the front or back?
Thin pair at the front or back?
Hi, I am new to the forum, thanks for reading this. I have a quick question
1) Ideally I would have a truck with four rims all the same, and four tires all the same. But I don't.
I have two tires on rims, about 50% worn
235/75/15
And Two tires on rims almost new
205/75/14
Should I put the narrow small ones on the front? Advantages are that narrow tires can cut through snow, because they are almost new they would have a better grip - which has to be good for steering - the downside is I imagine it would throw my speedo off..
Or Should I put the narrow/smaller ones on the back? I imagine I would get better traction with the new/ deep threadm, but in effect it would change the gearing if the tire has a smaller diameter..
Is there anything I have missed? What would you do? Put the narrow ones on the front or back? Thank you in advance, thanks.

I'd put the 14's in the front, you want the better tire in front for braking.
Your problem might be that the 14's may not clear the disc brake caliper, then you'll have no choice but to put them in the back.

Yes, narrower tires up front, wider in the rear for 2WD vehicles with rear wheel drive
On 4x4s tires must be same diameter but can be different widths
Use sand bags in the bed, over the axle, not all the way in the rear of bed, to get better traction
Weight at the rear can cause rear end to slide sideways when cornering on slippery roads
The sand can be useful if you get stuck, lol

Thanks all ! I am a very happy camper. I live on an Island and te topograpy is just like tops of mountains where te bases have been flooded. Pretty much the whole time I am riding I am going up and down, left or right.
I drove around the Island yesterday wit 16" rimsand everything was perfect - changing gears a lot a bit of 2, a lot of 3, and a bit of four..... (remember that)
Anyway, two 16" tires had to come off d/t tire seperating, and one wheel was not balanced right. 2011 supercab was right - the 14" rims do not clear the brake caliper so I had to put them on the back. There is a bonus though, with 14" on the back it has lowered the gearing - if I wanted to I could do the whole Island in 3rd now - it's much better

When I was in High School, late 1960's, lol, we used to always jack up the back and put larger diameter tires in the rear, that way the car was always going downhill, you know to save on gas.............
