tire pressure
what tire pressure should i run? 285/55/20 bfg at.
i know that the max pressure is 65psi. |
Ford suggests 30 psi. I run 35 psi to give me a little boost in MPG. The firmer you make the tire the better your MPG, but the quicker the centers will wear.
the max pressure is what the tire can handle before the sidewalls want to die, it doesn't mean it's the best pressure to run 'em at. I'd stay within range between Ford and malydeen...30-35PSI.
Thats 30 on a stock sized tire tho, does it differ when you go up or down in size?
around 30-35 or wherever the complete tread is contacting the ground.
on our van it says 30 psi and we keep those at 28 because it rides smoother. on the saturn it also says 30 but we keep those at 38 for the MPG boost, because that runs almost 100 miles a day.
The door jam/manual is for STOCK tires. I run my 275 BFGs at 45 hot. Ive dropped down to 35 a few times but ive noticed a loss of MPG under the same driving conditions.
Damn I need to put more air in my tires to get better MPG I am at 30 for the softer ride. lol
It may be due to the fact that i drive 80/20 Hwy/Street, but yeah i seem to get the best mileage at ~42cold
i run 35-40psi in mine
my LT265'S are E rated, so they require 40 psi in them. if you have a D rating, 35 psi will work.
Im running my 265 toyo's at ~40 psi cold right now, makes for a decent ride, and some good gas mileage :-)
i am running around 37 to 40 right now.. man i love the gasmileage boost...
I think i figured out my problem. I had mine overinflated. Thanks.
