Tire Pressure: How low is to low???

ok well i searched and couldnt really find an answer to this, im trying to figure out how low i can run my tires (if i had to) on the beach, ive got 33x12.5x15 nitto terra grapplers and 15x8 rims, i couldnt find anything on the tire itself nor anywhere else i searched, i run regularly about 30 psi when im on the road and i just want to know how low i could go without having it come off the bead or cause any other kind of problems........

(comments about using the search button are not needed so just hit the back button if you are feeling the need to make a comment......thanks)

i wouldnt go much lower than 15, 10 at the most. Your in a better position since youve got an 8" wheel.

so an 8 inch will hold the tire on better????

Yes a 8" rim will hold a bead better. As for how low you can go there is alot of factors, weight of truck, type of wheeling you are doing and how you drive. I tend to go on the low side 8 to 10 psi and just chance it, in the sand I have even went as low as 5 psi. For most offroading 12 to 15 will be fine and safe as long as your not trying to drive your truck like a sports car.

you would probably be ok with 10psi, because i know those TGs have one hell of a sidewall. i hate having to take them off a wheel.

ok the 15 pound range sounds good, i have never let any air out of my tires so i guess next time im out on the beach ill have to give it a try to see if it helps out at all....thanks

if its just slow beach driving 15 will be PLENTY. make sure if you go that low and have to get back on the highway you refill, or 20 should hold you all the way through.

just be gentle with the throttle on the sand...,

gentle....that dosent sound like fun, ill keep that in mind cause the sand down here gets pretty deep and real soft so sometimes excess throttle is needed to get you moving(until you bury yourself)......

he's just saying don't spin the tires, cuase you'll be ****ed. you could probably put it in 4L if you have a heavy foot.

that generally what i use when im driving through the dunes anyway......i try to keep tire spin to a minimum cause i dont want to be digging myself out

I usually run about 18 in sand and it seems to do pretty well

Safe with 10psi for sure. My BFG A/T's say they can be aired down to 10psi for maximum sand traction. The triple ply sidewalls help too.
