Tire/Rims Question

i drive a 1998 2wd 4 cylinder singel cab ranger and right now it sits on tiny 14" rims and im not really sure of the tires size its just really small... After a 4 inch lift what size tire do you suppose i could fit im iming between 31- and 35 hopefully 35s :P but im not sure at all i guess i need to get the current tire size and a few more measuremnt before i can expect an accurate guess.. also... what happens after you put bigger tires on, im guessing i need to change the gears? and what size rim should i go up to.. thanks !

I know a 33 would fit. I don't know anything about a 35.

My truck is the same as you and not lifted right now. I can fit a 31 without rubbing.

okay good i like the idea of 33"s what size rim should i go wtih and is there a good site to order them off or should i buy them in a store? the 35s are more of a dream deal :P do you think a 2.5 4 banger would be able to push 33"s alright?

It can push them but you are definitely going to have to re-gear. You are not going to be going anywhere fast with it though. That is why I bought 31's and just a 3 inch B/L so it is not as much tire to have to role. With my 31's, I can tell a difference.

For me it is just acceleration. I can still run 96 it just take me 20 minutes to get to it.

With a 4" lift, you should be able to clear 33's. But with a 4 cylinder you will definately need to regear to 4.56 or close. Whatever tires you chose, be sure to upgrade to a 15" rim because tires are more plentiful and cheaper than other rim sizes.

ya so 15 inch rim okay i tried looking for bigger ties for my 14 once and there wasnt a damn tire....so once i regear to 4.56 [by the way how do i do that?] will it hurt my accel alot? and whats a good site to buy rims/tires?

EDIT: after looking aroudn just a little bit i kinda like the Dunlop Mud Rover Tires 33X12.5R15 are those anygood?

First, find out what gear ratio you have. There is a tag on the axle, and there should also be a sticker on the drivers door jamb with the axle code #, then take that # and go here (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html) that will tell you what gears you have. Then take that ratio and figure out what tire size you want to run and go here (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...tioChange.html) that will tell you what you need to regear to have the same performance as stock. If you dont know anything about a gear swap, its probably best to have a shop do it, just a fair warning that its kind of expensive (~200-500). But since you are 2wd you are luckier and only have to buy one set of gears. Thats whats stopping me from lifting my truck, 2 sets of gears can get spendy in a hurry.

On your question about that tire, I have no idea.

someone on here just got those exact tires, dont remember who though, there are a couple other people running them too. from what i understand they are a good wearing tire and a decent mud tire
