Tire size question ?

I will be installing the SL 4" Lift and have to decide which tire to run, they will be KM2s.

I believe the lift calls for 285x75x16s max but the 305x70x16s aren't too much bigger; about 0.9" wider but are called out at the same OD.

Has anyone used the 305 size tire using a SuperLift 4" Lift ?

Thanks a head of time.

305-75 will be about an inch taller...
305-70 is about the same OD as the 285-75

Will the extra width of the 305-70 be a problem with the SL Lift.

the backspacing of your wheel will affect whether the width is a problem or not. Heigh wise, you should be fine. I only have a body lift and im sure i can fit 35s in there. I saw your bed for sale on craigslist and now know you have a stepside so u can fit a bit bigger set up in there.

305 / 70 is like a 33x12.5

315/75 is roughly a 35.. i believe??

It really depends on what wheels you are going to use. The stock wheels are only 7" wide, so a 305 is not going to fit well on stock wheels. And they might rub due to the backspacing.
An aftermarket wheel will have less backspacing so it will stick out farther. And with a 305 tire, you should have at least an 8" wheel.

right, back spacing on the wheels is your biggest factor. i say try and fit what you want on the truck and if the tires rub buy a body lift.

With the 305 only being 1.14" taller than the 285, I would say that it really wouldn't be that much difference. People on here have ran 35's with only a superlift.

Rims are : 16 x 8 w/4" BS
I think that is a little more than stock; so I think it means the tire/rim will be inward more than stock.

From what I seem on the BFG Charts, the 305 x 70 and the 285 x 75 for the KM2 are the same OD so that shouldn't be a problem the only thing in question is the width and the fitment with the 4" lift.
The 285x75x16 is 11.8" in width and the 305x70x16 is 12.5.

The SL kit calls out a 285 x 75 x 16 so I am just wondering.

thanks

it doesn't matter what the kit "calls out for" a tire size. You're not limited to a 285. Thats basically just like the factory saying u can only run a 245 75 16 but then if u crank your t-bars you can easily fit a 265 75 on there. It all has to do with your wheel, not so much the tire. the higher the backspacing is, the more chance of the wheel rubbing same goes with width of the rim. I've seen people running 35s on a superlift without a problem. hell ive seen people run 35s with only a 3" body lift

just an example...this isn't my truck, its Dan's. 4" superlift with 275 70R16 toyo m/t

I don't think 285s would look bad at all. Dans truck looks great imo

So we are talking about 305x70's or 305x75's? Your original post says 75. 99offroad said it best, just because the manufacture says you need to run 285's dosen't mean that is all you can run.

Ya I screwed up, the tire comparison is for 285x75x16 vs 305x70x16 - same OD (33) but width is in question - 305 = 12.5 & 285 = 11.5.

I know the difference is only an inch but I am already running more BS than stock.

Thanks for all of the input but I still like the idea of the 12+" tires over the 11+ but the THINKING goes on.
Now if I had a set of each and could try them out it would be be good.
Dan's truck looks OK so maybe the 285's will work out

I ran 305/70/16s for a few years with the superlift and it was fine.

4" BS is .5 less than stock. Stock is 4.5" of BS. You would be running less back spacing that stock witch means that they would stick out .5" more than stock. Now with the wheel being 1" wider than stock means that it would also stick out 1" further if they were the same width as stock wheels. The wheel will stick out 1.5" further than a stock wheel.

You'll be fine im running 305's with just a body lift and t-bar crank. They're roughly 33's
