Spare Tire Security

So I have a lockable cover for my spare tire ... the hole for the crank on my 2002 Ranger Extended Cab. Anyways, I came out of the hotel in Columbus, OH and there hangs my spare tire carrier cable and the stamped retainer. My cousin who has an F-150, also has a locking cap, finds that his spare tire is about half way down.

It looks like they slide up under the back of the trucks and they must bring their own tools to drop the spare tires.

Is there anyway, short of a lockable cable to keep this from happening again?

Chain through the spokes and find a place to lock it down with a lock.

Sorry to hear about that. Geez, people steal anything.

Like Dave said, a chain and lock will do good. Or you could go custom and make something.
