TPMS Question(s)

Hey guys,

So I just got my tiny/puny little 225/70/15s on my 2009 ranger XLT replaced with some BF Goodrich T/A K02 30x9.5x15s, man did they really change the look/feel of my truck in a great way! However, after unloading my old tires out of the bed my tire pressure sensor light came on. I called the shop that did the work and they said the tech who did it wasn't aware the 09 ranger had TPMS. I asked if I need to bring it back for them to switch and they said I can do that, but they weren't sure which type of sensor it has, they said apparently some kinds can be swapped and some cannot? I'm new to any sort of rim/tire/ford stuff (just bought this truck a month ago) so I'm clueless. Been looking it up online and educating myself but would love a little info from someone who knows for a fact what I need or what can/can't be done on my exact model.

Essentially here's my questions.
A: What kind of TPMS do I have? And what other types are there?
B: Can it be swapped to he new tires
C: Is there a way for me to easily disable the TPMS light? My old car was a 96 Toyota Rav4 so I'm used to having to rely on nothing but myself to know/check tire pressure anyway.

TPMS, tire pressure monitors, were required on ALL 2008 and up models, so it is odd the tire guys DID NOT KNOW you had that........its their job

It is Illegal to disable the TPMS light/system, but not illegal to drive around with no sensors and the TPMS light on..................go figure, lol.

Any way you can use either the strap on sensors or the Valve Stem sensors, as long as they are compatible with Ford system.

Some factory strap on sensors couldn't be reused, bands that held them on were part of the sensor so couldn't be removed(cut) from one wheel and used on another.

Newer strap on you can just use new bands to swap them from one wheel to the next.

I would get new sensors, not try to use the old ones

You can usually reprogram them yourself once new sensors are in place, but tire guys should have a handheld device that can do it faster.

DIY is not hard to do
You need to find the instructions to put TPMS in "learning mode", a few button pushes on the dash in the correct order
Then let a little air out of each tire in a pattern so the TPMS "knows" which tire is which, by change in air pressure
Then swing by gas station and top up tires

Thanks for all your feedback. Based on that, I'm currently thinking I might either just leave them without, or else have them add new ones depending on the cost. I need new suspension/coils anyway so I might have them do that at the same time.
