TPMS and a set of snow tires
 

Hi All,

I have a couple of options before me for my snow tires:

1. Buy a brand new set of snow tires and have them mounted on my factory rims, retaining the stock TPMS sensors.

2. Buy a gently used set of snow tires that include steel rims, but no TPMS sensors.

Option 1 appeals to me because the tires would be brand new and I won't have the TPSM light on all the time.

Option 2 appeals to me because I'll be able to handle the spring and fall tire changeover myself going forward and I'll be minimizing wear and tear on my rims.

Also: has anyone tried these aftermarket sensors?

They might give me the best of both worlds for a couple of hundred bucks extra.

Thoughts?

i would definately opt for the second choice being that they wont have to be swapped over. i have a set of brand new TMPS sensors off of an 06 im looking to sell. what year is your truck?

My truck is a 2009 4x4 Sport Supercab 4 door. How much for the sensors?

keep in mind you will have to buy the mounting bands from the dealership which i can get you also ( i work at a ford dealership) to mount them. im looking for $50 shipped for all 4 sensors and i can get you my cost on the bands too if you want

ill check the part numbers at work today for you and respond to this thread when i get home

they are the same and the straps for 15" rims are $25 each approx

don t forget that you will have to get a relearn procedure done every time you swap rims, so the Computer will recognize the new sensors

Thanks, guys. I ended up opting to get just the new 16" tires for now and will defer the "extra set of rims" decision until the new year. With luck I'll have time to find some salvaged parts.

I just heard back from FordTireSensors.com and they've confirmed that this sensor is compatible with 2009 and earlier Rangers with the TPMS, and since it's a valve stem replacement instead of a band, it should be more compatible with aftermarket wheels. At $37 per wheel, no bands required, it's a heck of a lot cheaper, too!

I also learned from a tire guy I talked to yesterday that the 2010s already use a less-expensive valve stem design.

Anyway, I'm using my OEM rims and sensors with the snow tires this winter, but I'll probably be giving these at try with an aftermarket wheel when spring rolls around.
