Wheel Weights on 33x12.5 KM2
 

Hey . I have been having issues with my KM2s.. long story short... after waiting almost 5 months, BF replaced two of them under warranty and i purchased another pair so i could put on a a fresh set of 4....

So, took the tires to local Ford dealership to have a family friend balance them on a roadforce machine... All of the tires took a lot of weight to balance.. 14oz for one of them. He was a little shocked that he wasnt able to get the tires to balance out properly, and one in particular he said wasnt co-operating and i will likely notice it on the highway...

Around town the truck is acceptable, and at 60-70km/h it seems fair as well, however, 85km/h i can feel the rear end bobbing noticeably, 95+km it seems to go away??

I have been talking to a lot of people on the subject and getting mixed opinions about balancing "such a large aggressive tire" on "a small truck" and that in general mud tires are prone to wobbling and youll always feel them going down the road?

What do you fellas consider an acceptable amount of wheel weight for these 33 km2s?

Should 4 brand new mud tires have issues being balanced?

Could balancing beads solve my issue?

It might not even be the tires. it might be the wheels.
thats a more common issue that you'd think.

I have new 35" KM2s and it took less than 8 oz to balance mine. It's DEFINITELY a wheel problem.

Yeah aftermarket rims balance like shit. My 31' bfg a/t take up to 16 oz. but they ride fine at any speed if I take the time to do it properly. Also they only took 5-6 each with my factory rims.

Check the rims first , then see if the tires have balancing patches inside them, I don't think BFG uses them but recently had an issue with some Swampers where they had come lose and f'd up the balance terribly...

If any shop tries to tell you they can't balance a large offroad tire they suck... The Walmart here can balance 37's perfectly. so it's got to be the operator " the machine can't with that big of a tire" speech got old and I can't believe that a damn Walmart is better than most tire shops... good luck....

I'll report back on this when i get mine balanced. waiting 100 miles before getting them balanced so they "break in". had an issue with my last pair on the old truck. i got them balanced the day they were mounted and about 50 miles later, they were out of whack and the truck shook. got them rebalanced and they were fine. didn't take much weight on the last truck. right now with no weight its not even bad and i've gone over 60 mph

have them pull the tire off and move it around the wheel.

I would look for any bends in the wheels.

My 33x12.5x15 MTR's take a a lot of weight to balance them out. Even tried moving the tire around on the rim

When I had my 33s installed, the guy at the tire shop said usually a 33" tire will take around 5 oz to properly balance them. He only told me in case I ever decide to ditch the stick on weights and go with the little tiny beads that go inside the tire.

If your friend has a road force balancer make sure the runout on the tire assembly isn't over ".036" or so, if it is bfg needs to get you a new one. Also have him road force match the tire to the wheel for the smallest amount of runout, don't just go moving it if you can help it, any larger shop these days is going to have a machine that's capable. My duratracs have tons of weight on them only being 31s but most of the weight is because of the wheels, BUT since they're matched to each other they ride smooth as glass(and they're only static balanced at that)
