tire sizessssss?

looking to get new rubber for the GMC. problem is, i dont know anything about tire sizes with 16inch rims.

What i have on there now are 265/70R16.

They really are not as wide as i want them. when the number in the middle goes down does the tire get wider? say like a 265/"65"R16? and the tires stance is not as tall?

any help would be great thanks guys.

The first number is the tire width in mm or 265 mm wide(10.43 in), the second number is the aspect ratio or the sidewall as a % of the width 70%x 265=198.75mm (7.82 in) and of course the third is the rim size. rim size + 2 sidewalls = how tall a tire is. so a 265/70/16 is
10.43 in wide
7.82+7.82+16= 31.64 in tall

A taller tire would be a 275 or 285...

That's the best explanation to how tire size works that I've ever read.

no when doing standard sizing 30(overall diameter) x 9.5 (tire width) x 15(rim size)

265/70/16 = 30.6x10.4/16
265/65/16 = 29.6x10.4/16

to get wider the first number needs to increase. 285 or 305 would be the next sizes.
how big of a tire do you want?

Second number is just determines sidewall height (overall size). My understanding is he wants a wider tire

Oh yeah, I forgot he wanted wider not taller. I that case he might consider a 285 65 to stay close on the height

a 285/65 series would put you how you want. gives you almost an inch wider tire and is about the same hight. unless you wanna go close to 12 inchs wide lol

265/70 - 10.43/30.60
285/65 - 11.22/30.58
305/60 - 12.00/30.40
315/60 - 12.40/30.88
