Why do these tires look so small?

1999 Ranger XL. Plaque on the door jamb says 205/75/14, and that is what is on the truck, but they look small to me. What would it hurt to go to a larger profile tire? I know it would throw the speedometer off some, but I can live with that.

It would hurt acceleration a bit but assuming you aren't doing a major jump in size it will probably be hardly noticeable.

Bigger tires will through off you're speedo, and your gas gage, other than that the initial cost of the tires. When I put my 33's on, I had to get used to the new shift points. I went from 245/75r16 to 33x12.50r15, I calculated it out when I got them, it's only about an 8% difference.

Going up 1 size won't hardly effect it,,, but it will probably look a hell of a lot better!

How would they throw off your gas gauge? Tires have nothing to do with the gas gauge.

It won't actually throw off the gas gauge. But it will throw off the odometer which will make it appear like the truck is using more gas.

My daughters 1998 XL has 31's on 15 inch rims (tires are 31x10.5x15 BFG AT/KO's) and though they rub a bit they've been doing it now for like 4 years or something, lol. The truck and the tires have survived.

She's got a 2.5 liter 4 popper and the standard gears with a 5 speed manual. It's not fast, but it's been reliable and the gas mileage is pretty good.

For sure, you could do 30x9.5x15. I definitely get 15" rims though. I believe those 14's are 14x6 rims and they are tiny.
