will i regret going with 265/75/16s?
 

like the title says, will i regret going with 265/75R16s instead of 285/75R16s?

i'll probably wind up with wrangler duratracs, but i don't know if 285s will be too much, and too stiff (they only come in a load range E), whereas the 265s come in LRC.

will i regret not going bigger?

Stock height or what? The 265/75R16's on my truck look small...but I have a 98 4x4. Remember, they were put on some from the factory.

whatever, either way...

i regretted going with oversized tires all together. as soon as you get into anything 75 profle the handling sucks. as soon as you start putting a load rated tire on a 1/4 ton truck you can say bye bye ride comfot, bye bye gas mileage and throttle response, and acceleration...

Even guys with 3/4 ton trucks complain about running E load tires... so i wouldnt go that route.

D-loads on a 1/4 ton.... thats kinda stupid.... I had those. The tires weighed 55lbs each. Factory tires were 36lbs... thats alot of extra unsprung weight.

Anyway everyone else here will tell you to do it, no problem, ya go for it!!!!

I took my 265/75/16's off. 12.5 mpg on a set of D-loads.... no thanks. and that was driving like a granny.

My next set of tires will be a P-rated 265/70/16 that weighs under 38lbs. I prefer to not have to stop frequently at gas stations on long trips and wont accept less than 18mpg out of my miniature truck.

*and 265/75/16's were never put on a stock truck. 255/70/16 was the biggest

mine rubbed the sway bar at stock height lol thats what made me get the body lift and crank the bars but now i have 33's anyways haha

actually 245/75/16 were put on stock trucks and are bigger by .4 of an inch that 255/70's

If the truck is stock, go with the 265's, especially if you can get them in a C load rating. I only run D rated tires on my F150, I would NEVER run E tires on a ranger.
My 98 Ranger came with 265/75/15 tires from the factory, so you're only looking at an additional 1" overall diameter.

I have E on a ranger and let me tell ya DONT DO THE E Dont do It.
I have to run them at like 27psi to even think of a smooth ride....
Oh only good thing about em is when you have a flat the side wall is so damn stiff it just looks like your running low on air...

Also they suck at running on sand

There was a little loss of power but it was well worth it. They look alot bigger in person. I say DO IT!!!

I cant complain about my tires.....run them at 38 psi and bars cranked....call me crazy

my truck has 265's perfect for just a t bar crank.
also, toms, your '98 4x4 came with 235's from the factory NOT 265's. nice try, though.

He probably mistook 16 for 15. My 98 ranger 4x4 had the off road package of it's day (his probably does too) and the door jamb said 265/75R15.

By the way David, your truck looks great with those tires and painted wheels.

LOL. My 98 DID come with 235/75R15's from the factory. However, SOME Rangers did come with 265/75R16's from the factory, I NEVER said mine did. Some Rangers also came with 245/75R16's. Look it up....

Maybe the newer trucks, i'm talking about 98-00's.

I don't have the 4x4 Off-Road package but I do remember seeing 265/75R16's stock on a door sticker, it may have been 15's though. Either way I know they did. Some people just need to research I suppose... :crazy:

thanks for the input guys. the truck in question is a 2006 FX4 (non-LII), stock height.

i think i'll go for the 265/75R16s in a LRC and crank the torsion bars 1 turn or so to help level it out.

i'm glad i asked, because i was leaning to the 285s...
