Icon4 Funny Smell, and Smoke....

Since I took my truck out muddin last I have been getting this funny smell when the engine is put under any strain. I look under the hood and there's "smoke" coming from, what appears to be, the pipe going from the exhaust manifold to the throttle body right behind the flap. Now I'm not big on terminology so I'm not sure what this pipe is called. It's a very odd smell that it is producing around where it meets the exhaust pipes. It's a short pipe around a foot 1'6" long. I can only assume that it is some sort of vacuum. Maybe if someone knows what this pipe is called, what it does, and why it might be smoking then they could give me a little clue. I am not completely mechanically inept, I just did a clutch swap without a snag, I just can't seem to put together what this problem is the result of. Oh btw it's a '93 Ranger XLT 2WD 2.3L 4 banger.

Thats the EGR tube.
EGR stands for Exhaust gas recirculation.

I've had things do that a lot after offroading. After we offroad in St. Clairs old open pit mine or up in Centralia I smell coal burning for the next week, no kidding.

After I go through Wharton, I'll end up with things like that too as mud bakes on and plant material in it smolders.

Might be nothing more than that but it would pay to keep an eye on it. It's probably from lower down on the exhaust and just looks like it's coming from there -- but of course I can't tell because I can't see it, lol.

Thanks, Brandon, I appreciate that.

It's a work in progress though. I've actually been offroading 2WD for 5 years and SAS is part of the whole process of getting to 4x4 capability. I'll have the transmission rebuilt and the transfer case on and driveshafts in place by this spring sometime and get back to wheeling.

Now when I get it done, I have to learn to drive offroad all over again, lol.
