Does your 4 banger do this?

I'm wondering if everyone's 4 cylinder autos are doing what mine does. When I let off the gas it doesn't pop into neutral like most other vehicles, i feel like its putting a lot of drag on my truck and I want it to stop, I think it should roll and coast better than it does. Any ideas?
I've got an 07 2wd 4 cylinder with the auto trans.

the only thing it should do is unlock the torque converter when you let off the gas. you might want to check your parking brake cables to make sure they're not frozen and pulling a little bit.

Yeah I just don't want to go there and tell them I don't think my torque converter isn't locking and have them tell me thats how they all are or thats how its designed.

Thats what mine does too, I just want it to roll free, I can't coast at speed for any distance, my dad's F150 rolls like my old Mustang and I think I need to figure this out...

The reason the tranny doesn't just unlock is because you are letting off the gas so the computer thinks your are slowing down. The engine is used to slow you down so you don't put as much strain on the brakes. It's like downshifting a manual trans. It is completely normal.

Think there is a way they can set it up to let it coast? Coasting downhills would save me some mpg's. I pop it into nuetral sometimes but I don't think I should have to do that.

it looks as if your only option beside going to the dealership is putting it in neutral

It's only moving the shifter up one notch. How hard could that be?

well if you go one more notch than one notch then you start going back (or trying)which in this case is better to go slower forward then stop and go backwards......lol

I hate that i had my trans rebuilt because my torque converter went out. But the guy told me that it is the shutting off of the injectors and its just a ranger thing but i hate having to gas it down hills, especially with gas prices the way they are now. Let me know if anyone finds out different.

I've done it with an AOD. It didn't go well, the wheels locked up at 70, blew vacuum hoses off the motor. No trans should be able to shift in reverse, but if something is wrong with the trans... then ne thing goes.

I've always been under the impression that it is bad to coast an automatic transmission in neutral?
