Check this out...I replaced my plugs..noo problem, actually enjoyed doing it..ok, I leave the shop and I'm driving down the road and decide to turn the a/c on, temp **** turned all the way to the blue, fan maxed out and the **** is turned to max/ac after maybe 6 min or so..nothin, in fact hot as hell air is coming out, as if I have the heater on, but it's not on. The funny thing about this is just a few weeks ago I was running the a/c and everything was fine, nice and cool air.

Could I have inadvertenly unplugged something or what, I did find a thin white tube (probably an 1/8 of an inch in dia) about 12" long, with a small black rubber elbow with a small hole at the end, looks like it belongs on a nipple somewhere..anyways this small line is located behind the large air tube leading from the air filter to the throttle body, there are some black metal tubes nearby that are associated with the a/c, also you do hear a nice clear "click" when you engage the compressor or clutch, what do you all think, where could that line belong, I looked every where but it is alluding me..

Hello...it is a "98" Ranger, 4 cylinder, 2.5 L, 5 speed manual.

 

Might try using a mirror and light - you'll probably see where the vacuum hose came unplugged.

 

Find the spherical vacuum reservoir by the airbox and reconnect it.

That reservoir is attached to the inner fender plastic liner, forward.

 

Your blend door is vacuum operated and sounds like it is no longer moving and thus is stuck in the heater position. Run down the vac lines and see if something came loose. Also can you post a pic of the line that has the hole in it?

Hey..check it out, I found where that line went, I followed advice on tracking the a/c tubing and discovered a small black box, with the nipple where the line goes facing DOWN toward the ground, essentialy well hidden for the unknowing eye. Plugged it back in and presto a/c again. Thanx everybody..I'm learnin..stay tuned for more questions..lol

Hey, Deco, where was that "small black box"?
I have a small-diameter line that's attached up the side of the blend box with a loose end and I'll be damned if I can find where that connects. My a/c works fine in NORMAL but only comes out the defoster when in MAX.

 

Hey Steve W, sorry for the delay. I have been busy. Ok I found the black box on the left pax side if your in front looking at the engine. You will find black tubing that is related to the A/C, right around the windshield and coolant reseviores. Trace around those black a/c tubes downward, I found this small black sorta box with the nipple pointed towards the ground. I plugged in the stray line and that was it, its there alright. You'll find it, its there..take care

 

how did you replace the plugs so easily? took me hours trying to replace them working around that stupid intake manifold. Did you remove it first? if so, how? there's a bolt on it that I couldn't reach.
