Is there a difference between a ranger 4.0 and an explorer 4.0

I decoded my vin for school today and in my 8 th place it read E witch said 4.0 v6 sohc ( explorer, mountiner) and I did not know if there is a difference in the 4.0s any help would be great! Thanks

The only thing I could see is where each one makes power. The truck would need more torque off the line but AFAIK they are the same. It could just be a ford internal thing.
