Check Engine Lamp Illuminated and a P0304 Code

Was driving cross country from Seattle to Wichita Kansas.
On a long pull just east of Boise Idaho, the truck shifted out of overdrive and then totally lost power. Accelerator pedal was pulled to the floor because cruise control was on.

Kicked the O/D off manually and hit the off switch to the cruise control. Check engine lamp started flashing and then stayed on. Managed to limp into a rest area about 4 miles away and stopped.

Used my scangage to pull at P0304 code out of the system and then reset the computer to cancel the CEL. For the balance of the trip, anytime I started up a long grade, I shut off the cruise and switched off the O/D.

Managed to get home but because Kansas is billiard table flat, I cannot make it toss the code or turn on the CEL. I swapped out the following parts yesterday.....

Replaced the coil brick with a new unit.
Replaced the spark plug wires with a new set of Autolite wires.
Replaced spark plug #4 with a new Autolite Platinum Plug.

Could not really find anything wrong with the plug and the wires all looked fine.

Any other suggestions on what else to possibly check or do you think I replaced the offending part and I just need to take another vacation to Colorado and see if I got the problem fixed.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you may have.

I have a program that tells you what the P codes are for our rangers and I looked it up for my 2000 and also for a 03 and it came back cylinder #4 miss fire. Seeing that you have replaced all the necessary parts pertaining to the spark of the truck all I can suggest is to drive the truck for a few days or at least 50+ miles and see if the code comes back. Good luck and be safe
