Dual Exhaust

So I'm thinking of duals on my Ranger. I'm getting quotes for cat back, muffs, and tips for like $400. Is this a good price?

Whats the difficulty level for doing it yourself? Is welding involved? Or is it pretty much bolt on?

If you get a good kit then it will be all bolt in. Magnaflow has a dual kit but it is pricey. Not sure who else makes a dual kit since I don't like split dual exhaust on trucks.

Oh yeah. Like $733 on Magnaflow's website. http://magnaflow.com/02product/shope...ne=all&id=4540

I'm sure you can find it cheaper.

Check craigslist, I got the kit for 350 on there.

I found it here for $566. Worth it in my opinion since you get mandrel bent stainless steel pipes and a great sound. If you want louder I would try a different brand. Oh and it will fit your truck since Ranger's haven't changed since 01(drivetrain wise).

i got quotes ranging from $150 to $600 for my truck when i got my exhaust. i ended up paying $170 for a single in dual out flowmaster 40 series, custom bent pipes and stainless tips. keep looking around. one muffler shop made fun of me for wanting dual exhaust on a v6, needless to say he got non of my money. just keep looking around, but $400 isnt terrible

The problem with exhaust shop systems is that they crush bend the pipes, the welds sometimes suck and they pretty much don't use any flanges so if you have to get the exhaust off you have to cut it. I'd rather spend the money and get a good kit.

Yes. All bolt in. I didnt have a small problem with my Magnaflow not sealing against the stock flange but I think its because I ran no exhaust for a year and the gasket was really worn.

that is true. i couldnt get a bolt on kit routed the way a wanted/needed mine to be. but youre right the quality of a bolt on kit is usually better

For me Flowmaster and V6s don't mix. Its all really personal taste. I like Magnaflow for their sound and flow through design.

Here is what my Magnaflow looks like inside:

Yeah most shops you have to ask for mandrel bent pipes and they charge more, its worth it in my book. I like flowmaster for sound but magnaflow for performance.

I just had a shop custom bend everything and had them put the muffler on... mandrel bent, for like 430 bucks... not including tips.. But ive been thinking on switching mufflers myself and those magnaflows look pretty sweet.

i like the sound of the magnaflow as well, but which one does everyone have or that sounds the best? heres one on youtube that sounds good: magnaflow catback system

if you just buy the muffler and the tips and have the shop custom bend the pipe, it sounds bout the same as the high dollar kits doesnt it?

and what about glasspacks? mudranger96 has just a glasspack w/ duals. would they help/hurt performance, and do they sound good? ik straitpipes on the rangers suck, had a friend w/ an 02 edge 4x4. was yellow w/ black stripes w/ the straits and we always made fun of him bc he looked and sounded like a bumble bee. lol

Well I go Friday to get my duals. They are going to "try on" mufflers so I can see which one I like best. Mags, Flows, or Imcos. Said Imco is most aggressive, but only 2 yr warranty, Flows - 1 yr, and of course Mags is lifetime warranty.

If you want it to look good I would go Magnaflow or Borla. Everything else is going to rust quickly

if you do decide to do a body lift later you do realize that the exhaust will look like crap then.

IMO do all the lifting you want first, then have pipes made. because kits look bad on a body lifted truck.
