Piston replacement in a 94 4.0 ohv

Well what started as a cracked head or two has now turned into a big pain in my butt.

I was about to put the motor back together with the new heads when I was cleaning it out and noticed a blown piston and a very carboned different piston.

How hard are piston to change in these motor, are they even worth the effort.

I was told I can pull the oil pan and disconnect the connecting rods and then push the pistons out. Is that the easiest way to do it?

Here are some pics to feast upon.

Unless your looking to dump the truck I'd just get a cheap short block from Jasper.

I am trying to fix the truck for my father-in-law. I have already spent over $500 of their money, I am not buying a short block. I know it looks bad, but I don't have a choice in how I fix it. I need to fix it as cheaply and reliably as possible, even though those don't go together.

This should not have happened at 160k, but I don't think the previous owner took good care of it and his son drove it like a bat out of hell and didn't take care of it for the 6 months or so he drove it.

Well I just looked at Jasper's website and they don't have a 94 ohv short block, only the whole motor it seems and they want $2700, not going to happen.

Ugh, not what I like to hear. Not what they want to hear either. Hmmm.

Looks like its time to give up on this thing, the truck looks like it has been beat with a baseball bat anyway, lol.

Don't part it out. Remove the pistons and crank and have the block honed. That truck will run for years if you do that; espically with as much as you have said you have done to it.

This truck is a bone stock truck, there is nothing done to it.

I am not going to put anymore money into this truck, it really isn't worth it. Plus its not my money to spend anyway.
