4.0L Questions

Ok, so I'm picking up a 95 XLT Ranger 4x4 next month and have some questions to anybody who would know. I've searched this forum (and Internet) and it seems a bit confusing as far as what's going on with these engines.

So when we're talking about the SOHC (which I really don't think it is) and the OHV, is there any identifying way of knowing? I know most SOHC has humps in the front of the valve covers like the 4.6L would on a mustang.

I haven't picked the truck up yet so it's hard for me to dig into it at the moment. Also I saw some different talk on here about potential output of these engines, so what would the 95 vin X have? I read stuff where it said some of the years heads where better than others as far as porting, which was the best years?

And, last thing here, not considering the poor flow of ford heads, does this engine respond well to bolt on's (headers, exhaust, CAI, gears, etc...) and a tune?

Thanks

Thanks, I figured the year of the vehicle would play a big part of determing it.

the OHV is a good motor just not as powerful as the SOHC also check the intake gaskets on them...known to start leaking

First thing I'm replacing because the valve cover gaskets are leaking, and the kit I'm getting comes with the intake gaskets. Thanks for the info. It's throwing an EGR and O2 sensor code too that I'll have to deal with.
