Sure its possible but it will cost you a couple of thousand in parts and labor even if you get the 5.0L and its computer for free. For one, you can't use your 5 speed OR the Mustang's 5 speed, you have to buy a tremec transmission with the shifter in a different location.

With the motor he could do it for under $1000. If the motor has the C4 tranny or an AOD your are fine, if not it probley has a T5 which can be used. All you will need at that point is a new oil pan, radiotr, motor mounts, and headers. Check out www.jamesduff.com they have alot of stuff.

except that his truck is a 5spd... so he'd have to do alot of work to convert the interior to an automatic.

Not exactly. You don't have to do anything really. Rip out the old stick and put the auto trannies gear selector in the same place. You don't have to do anything with the clutch pedal, you can just leave it there. I had a friend with a manual '85 Ranger that was converted to solid axle and 5.0L power.

Yeah, I was thinking that would work, but that just seems really half-assed to me.

Agreed, but this was just a trail rig for the most part so it was fine. It had full width dana 44 and ford 9" axles with what probably equated to an 8 inch suspension lift and it had a body lift too. Only had 35"s on it and it was ugly as sin. Fun to drive though.

If you want to see what is involved with this swap in a 92 look at my car domain site. I have everything documented.

Most everything on the car will go right into the truck. Including the motor mounts. And with the Mustang mounts, there are Mustangs running around with 600hp or more using these same style mounts so there is no reason you can't do the same thing in a Ranger.

the mustang trans will work fine, the shifter comes out the hole in the floor.. if it's 4x4 than the trans will need an adaptor... just dynoed a guy with a 408 in a 92' with a t-5 in it...made 500 hp with stock mounts, just fine...has clutch problems...lol

I'm new here but I just gotta ask. How do you "thread dig" a board that has 18 posts to its name?

92...you asked a question about a V8 swap, got only one answer from someone who looks like he has experience with the topic, and then start flaming people for giving you solid answers.

Am I missing something?
