if your gonna port a box to make it sound good you need the right sized box, if a box was made to be sealed and you port it, it usually sounds like shat. In order to recieve a good sound of bass from a ported box the box usually has to be WAY BIGGER, example sealed boxes usually only require .5-.75 cubic feet of air space but ported usually require 1-1.5 cubic feet, so i would sell that box and buy a new one.

ya im pretty sure it is 1.26 each. that just makes sense, its a really big box. either way tho do you think that wud solve the problem? i assume with such a big box theres just more noise like when the subs are barely moving but enough to make noise

but it wasn't my box that aws rattling it was the back panel and the two rear door panels.

It sounds like the amp just needs tuned a little better. When you play rap the majority of the beat is bass so there's no other sounds going through your subs. But when you play rock there are so many other frequencies and sounds getting to your subs that make them sound like *ss.

exactly.

a ported box is much more involved than a sealed box. many variables go into play when building a ported box- type of sub, t/s parameters, desire, etc.. once you get that info, figure out if your subs are even capable of being used in a ported box. if they are, find out what they require (airspace, port length, etc..). there are math equations out there that take away any guessing and tell you straight up what you need to know. i'd be very suprised to learn that your current box can be easily converted into a ported box.

and about your noise... check your amp's settings before you tear apart your box... it sounds like something might need to be adjusted a little and that's it.

subs have air space requiremtns.. too much airspace.. and the sub wont be good.. some subs only need limited airspace such as rockford fosgate.

just to let you know this is a jerk comment but take it also from a professional installer, you have junk and junk sounds like junk. pyle is the lowestest of the low in quality. dual is junk also. it is probly a combination of things that are your issue. amp not properly tuned. should be set on low pass filter, hz set to 80hz, gain should never be turned all the way up turn it up till you here the subs distort at 5/8 volume then back the gain off just past where they stop distorting. also never never never use bass boost. also bad rca's are also somewhat of an issue, spend the money on a nice set from knukonceptz or RF or stinger. the box volume could be to large or small for the subs. also the subs are probly not designed to be downfired. and box might have a leak, and is it 3/4" mdf or 5/8" mdf or particle board. you always want 3/4" mdf or birch ply(birch because it is lightweight and still strong). you can port that box but it would not be worth it. shoot me a pm and we can talk about me building you a custom build ported box for those speakers. i always custom build a box for my subs based on the required stats of the sub or subs. that will get you the best sound and performace out of the sub. also could be the recording of the song, or the song in general. sorry for being harsh but i see it all the time. that is why i work out of my house doing installs instead of in a shop anymore, the CA industry is hurting right now and that means the shops dont have any money to pay me what i want because of my knowledge base and experience.

Phil I think it's time to upgrade those subs and amps. My setup isn't the best with a Pioneer Premier Sub and Kicker amp but I think you'd be happier with better stuff.

Drew! I didn't realize how close you are to me. We relatively at least. I'm going to PM you.

i say buy 2 alpine type s subs duals 2ohm wire them to 2 ohm final load and get a pioneer GM-D8400M amp i have done about 15 of those exact setups and all but 1 have sounded great. the one that didnt sound great was because a fellow installer built the box and he liked to use a circular saw instead of the $1500 table saw and his cuts were not straight and that caused the box to leak.

i am just trying to educate you. $20 isnt bad for a starter system but i highly suggest buying new subs and an amp and you will be like why did i waste my money on that previous setup. so i nailed your issue right on the dot crossover not set properly.

when porting a sub box, port length and size come into play
the box usually has to be designed to be ported from the beginning and it will be specific to the type of sub you use
