Which Stereo Install Kit?
#2
Well you have to get the 2nd one because your den is the double din size, but regarless, the kits for the ranger SUCK, like seriously suck...no secure at all, i need to remove mine and flip it over and fiberglassit in or something so its on there, and then just slide the radio in...

There is one made by american international that actually fits nice and tight. It fits better than the kit made by metra.
I just used it in my truck. It also comes with the piece that helps support the rear of the radio by using the stock support in the dash like the oem radio uses.
I would suggest that one. Plus you can put the pocket either on top or bottom.

my kits clips broke, and now when I start out on an incline the whole Flippin radio falls out and I have .002 seconds to catch it or get ready to re-attach wires aat 60mph...
I'll be moving my HU down to my Expo console as soon as I get one.
and its the metra pocket on the bottom kit from Circuit City.

I had that metra kit with the pocket on the bottom and it sucked. When I installed my flip out screen, I used a new metra kit because the old one had broken clips. The new one only lasted 2 weeks before the weight of the screen broke the clips.
With the american international kit, You can use a backbrace to help support the weight of the radio. Also there are side brackets that you can use to physically mount the radio to the kit instead of using the cage. Like you would ISO-mount a radio. That way, it doesn't put all the pressure on the weakest point, which would be the metal tabs that you bend. It actually spreads out the weight of the radio evenly throughout the kit. It probably sound stupid, but trust me. This kit is alot better than the metra kit. Plus you get a bigger pocket to put stuff in.

Well thats the kit from both pictures, can have the pocket top or bottom, and the plastic piece hindges on and screws on to support the back of the radio...i bent all the clips out on the cd player, but its the problem of the plastic installation piece...when i remove the 2 screws for the dash trim, and pull it out with just little effort i can get the radio out....i figured they wouold make a better one, i will probably be reinforcing it with some alumn. plating or just fiberglassing the inside so it wont move...

You do have to do a very small mod to fit it in there, but it can be done. I have installed the kenwood double din nav unit in a ranger before.
If you want the kit, make me an offer shipped. It cost me $20.

I believe that all you have to do is cut the upper and lower lips on the radio bezel. You don't touch the side ones.
